My Coop
My Coop
I wasn't sure what thread category to put this so I just put it in chicken behaviors. I was walking in the chicken yard and I notice a hen did't look right. She was wobbling then she plopped on the ground and flopped around in circles. Then 1 minute later she quit moving. A look closer and shes dead:confused:. I put the dead hen in a clear trash bag and left her till the morning. The next day I was about to bury her and this yellow foamy stuff was coming out. What is it and how do I prevent this from happening again. The same thing happened to another girl shortly after. I did not take pics this happened 1 year ago and I want to prevent it from happening again.:(

Yellow coming out of her vent can mean infection.
It could mean it was poop too. It could mean many things. Can you cut open her body and get clear photos of her insides?

The yellow foam came out of which end? How old was the hen and how long had you had her? What was the weather like? (Unusually hot or cold, etc.?) When is the last time she laid an egg if you know? How many chickens do you have? Do they sleep in an enclosed coop, and how big is it in feet? Have any new chickens joined the flock lately?)

As I said before it happend long ago and I want to prevent it.
What do you feed your flock?

If it happened a year ago... Are you doing anything different than you were a year ago or have you done everything the same?

if you've been doing everything the same and it hasn't happened again then maybe it won't.

The breast and wing area. The hen was about 2 years old. Wheather was normal not too hot or cold. Don't know the egg. I have 13. Yes the coop is fully enclosed during the night. No new hens.
