I had an idea the other nite while I was in my office. (and I remembered after I flushed!) LOL
I want to give my co-workers home made kahlua for Christmas and thought I better start now.
My friends mom had a recipe when I was a kid and I remember it had:
Vodka
vanilla beans
instant coffee
sugar
and 30 days?
can y'all help?
Thanks in advance,
Bridget

I have an actual kahlua rescipe booklet here that I got for christmas 1 year, when I find it we'll see what you may like

I've never tried it, but this is out of Top Secret Recipes: Sodas, Smoothies, Spirits and Shakes by Todd Wilbur - my favorite recipe book series!!!

Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
1 c light corn syrup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
5 tsp instant coffee
1/2 cup hot water
1 1/3 cups vodka
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine corn syrup, sugar and coffee with hot water in pitcher or large jar. Stir or shake until sugar is dissolved. Add vodka and vanilla extract and stir well. Store in covered container, improves with age. Makes 3 cups

The author states this is his improved version of the recipe he originally printed in the 1st Top Secret Recipes book, but I have that book, too, if you want me to look that one up.

Hope it helps!

This is his first recipe from Top Secret Recipes by Todd Wilbur

Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
2 cups 80-proof vodka
2 cups water
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 Tablespoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 Tablespoons instant coffee

Combine all ingrediants in saucepan. Cover and cook over med heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Be sure to keep it covered. Store in an empty 750ml liquor bottle with screw top or other resealable lid. Makes 750mls.

Important to use covered saucepan when boiling or all alcohol will boil off. Tastes better the longer it sets, store at least 30 days before drinking.

I was planning on "gifting" this to my coworkers at Christmas so I think I have time to try a few.
Hehehehe

Here's the recipe I use.

3 cups sugar
4 cups distilled water
10 tsps instant coffee
2 cups vodka
2 tsps vanilla

Mix sugar, water and coffee in 2 qt pan.
Bring to a boil and simmer 2 hours.
Cool completely.
Add vodka and vanilla.
Bottle and let set for 3 weeks.

Good Luck

Imp- Years ago a friend told me that her grandparents made it with melted vanilla ice cream. I never got a recipe, but it sounds intriguing. Although not exactly Kahlua.
