Your 2024 Garden

Been busy with Real Life, catching up now.

Replanted carrots where the rainbow chard didn't germinate.

The fences are to discourage the cats.

Replanted turnips, too (need to weed!)

The collards have small cabbage and Army worms on their leaves, but I have been picking them off regularly.

The chickens love it.

I have a helper, too.

:love

I found some Arugula seeds at the local nursery. It's too late to plant them, will just wait for Spring...or I could try planting under plastic. :caf

I also picked up two more packs of collards seedlings for the empty melon bed and the tomato bed, too. The tomato plants are producing, still, but the fruit is rotting on the vine. I'm going to pull them up and place them on the burn pile.

Speaking of burn pile...yesterday morning this was woods and vines...

...thank you, Tree Guys!

Afterwards I noticed a lot more sunlight was reaching the vegetable gardens.

You can see them to the right of the big shed.

And now there's more light for the coop. I put down the shade cloth so the chickens couldn't see the men and Bobcat as easily, they were very upset, but I can use it as well when it's warm. It rolls up for ventilation.

I think that's all for now.

The area I cleared for most of our 2024 garden will be in a vineyard starting in November. I will plant knee high vegetables in the middles between rows for a year or two. Mostly peas. That's summer peas like the pink eye purple hulls that have done so well this year.

Right now we have enough muscadine jam to last us 2-3 years and will still make samples of different mixes using muscadine juice and other berries and fruit. No telling what will turn up. Have one coming soon we'll call PMS Jam.

I need to call it a day and get some sleep if possible.

Hubby does not like the chest freezer we have, though he admits it's better than nothing. Everything migrates to the bottom. So I think an upright would be a good thing to have. Not in place of, but in addition to. Then he can decide where stuff goes.
I'm the same way, don't like the chest freezer but do love the ability to freeze. We also have two uprights from Costco, love those. They have drawers and it makes it really easy to organize

We dropped our Costco membership because of the distance to shop. Might me worth one more renewal if we don't find what we like locally.
