Your 2024 Garden

From today:

Happy collards! They look leggy because I have been stripping off the bottom leaves to feed to the chickens.

First pea blossom!

I walked through the garden today. Gardening is so much easier in fall. It has got dry here again. Been having to water some.

Every thing is growing well and almost no bugs.
I picked some mustard and cooked a big pot full about a week ago. We ate some and froze some.
It grows very fast. I'll being picking again hopefully Monday. Mustards are my favorite leafy green.

Collards are looking good. This is more of a test run to see how they do in the winter here. They under normal winter conditions will still be producing in the spring. Instead of pulling the plants we will just trim bottom leaves for a meal at a time. At least that is the plan.

Are you making a 2025 thread?

I have 15 collards plants, and the first batch I planted are BIG. I have been harvesting a couple bottom leaves at a time to feed to the flock, who love them.

I'm trying to remember if I ever have eaten mustard greens. I do like turnip greens, but am not fond of kale.

I guess it is about time for one. Would you like to make it this time?

I could make a 2025 thread, but I am not able to be a good host(ess), as I can't always check it daily.
Come as often as you can.... 2025 is up and started. A lot of our 2024 garden space is being planted to vineyard. The way I go through muscadine jam it's a good thing too. If we could just grow good bread in the garden I'd have it made here in the heart of peanut country. We only have a small percentage of the chicken census that we had this past year now so that is that much less daily work. I should have more time to focus on doing some woodworking once again now. At least the bugs don't bother those projects and when it is bone dry like it is now they don't need watering. I will be installing drip tapes right down the rows of what we do plant this coming year. I still look forward to seeing good things emerge from the soil that will remove nutrients from the good earth for our bodies to use.
