Well the new seed catalogs are out tempting those who like to try new things. Not sure what all we will plant but it will be nothing like 2024. We put a lot of effort and money into somethings that just didn't pan out. I have a great way to barter for things that don't grow well here with some things that do. Okra is one of them and after the first picking or two there is no bending or raised bed needed. Okra and summer or cow or field peas along with pole beans will be the bulk of what we grow in 2025. At least that is the base of our plans.

No tomatoes?
Not in the garden but maybe a few in containers of sterile soil. There is a virus here that wipes them out before they can ripen more than 2-3 and it's not worth the expense or time or labor to plant a row for canning only to watch them all die. We used to put out 300 or more plants a year for marketing. Miss those days.

I know they are more of a perennial item for a garden but later this month our new muscadine vines should arrive and that will be our first new planting. This first planting of then and one bunch grape will consist of about a dozen vines. One of the muscadine variety is capable of growing 1 1/2" diameter fruit. I use about a pint of muscadine jam a week. Today I really need to water the fruit trees here as it is dusty dry. Even the deep rooted banana trees are showing signs of stress.

Our 2025 planting starts in January with beets, onions, cabbage, & cauliflower in raised beds. We may grow some bib type lettuce this year. That is something we used to grow and haven't tried to grow it yet in this locale. It's highly possible for a variety of leaf lettuce to get planted as wilted lettuce is a treat.

I already have my seeds for next year. I saved bell, paprika, and jalapeno seeds but no tomatoes. I do have heirloom romas and beef steak that I will be planting next year, got them from a local seed company. I also got lots of medicinal herbs and sunflower seeds, excited to try and save the seeds from those for eating. A few months ago, our local Rural King was offering their seeds for free, just to get rid of them. My sister stocked up and shared her bounty so I have lots of different lettuce and other things to try

I ordered my seeds early, from a new supplier:

The peas are looking good, flowering already.

I gave up on Baker Creek, the germination rates were bad. I'll continue to plant what seeds I have left over, but thickly to compensate.
