Hey happy farmers! In this article, we will be talking about how to keep fresh eggs longer. Let's jump in!

Eggs are always kept at a lukewarm temperature in the coop, if not warmer. So why do we put it in the fridge? Well, the reason why eggs must go inside the fridge is because people clean the eggs with water. Cleaning the eggs with water removes the protective membrane around the egg. Therefore, the egg is unable to be fresh without refrigeration. Instead of having to refrigerate your eggs and have to finish them within a week, start dry cleaning. Dry cleaning is very helpful if you are wanting to have a business selling eggs if you are a baker, or simply want to keep eggs fresh longer. Some common questions are, "How do you dry clean? or Does the egg come completely clean? How much longer will the egg stay fresh? Does dry cleaning take longer?" We will discuss these questions and show you why dry cleaning can be a smarter way to clean your eggs!

First, how do you dry clean? It's simple, take a sponge that is scratchy on one side. Begin to scrape the egg gently with the sponge. Hold the egg carefully in your hand and make sure you are not squeezing or pressing too hard. The egg will not come completely clean, or as clean as water makes it, but it will stay fresh and be cleaner than before. The egg will of course stay fresh longer and can sit on the counter for over 2 weeks. A fridge is about 1 to one and a half weeks. Will dry cleaning take longer? Depends on the egg, but the answer is mostly yes. However, it will only take a few seconds longer per egg and is well worth the time. I sell my eggs to neighbors, which means I have to dry clean them to keep them fresh every week. It also free's up fridge room, which is always needed! ;-). Dry cleaning also helps to keep the flavor of the egg more flavorful! Yum!

When I store my eggs after dry cleaning I place them in an egg holder, (Links in notes). When you buy white eggs from the store, they oftentimes die the eggs white by bleaching them in harmful chemicals! That's what we are eating? Gross! But with farm-fresh eggs, you won't have to worry, phew! Dry cleaning has so many benefits for your health, and it will help to keep fresh eggs longer!

Great article!

I clean my eggs like this. Another thing that helps is having a thick layer of hay in the nest boxes and cleaning any crap out of it every day.

Awesome job on this! ❤️
