Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Thank you! It definitely extends the growing season. I had a hoop house a few years ago and picked a fresh tomato on November 5th! (It was a mild fall.)

May 11: All the sad little plants in containers will hopefully be put out in the garden this week.

Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

I planted a short row of onions in the greenhouse today. Tomorrow will be lettuce and some basil. As soon as I get to the local greenhouse I will buy broccoli and cauliflowers to put out there. I put my started seeds out there during the day and bring them in at night because it still gets a bit...

I read your previous post wrong - I saw knees and my brain said hips. I hope you can keep your hips! Although, from what I have read, those are the “easiest” of joint replacements. With knees replaced, raised beds are a necessity.

Thank you! It has kept DH busy for a while anyway. He needed something to do before starting spring fieldwork. (Still hasn’t started that, but is now starting to get machinery ready.) I can’t wait to actually plant things out there. I don’t know how early I can put tender plants out there...

Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

DH took this project and ran with it. The kid in the picture is my 3 year old grandson. He has claimed the “gleen house” as his own (“I builded it myself”) and loves to go out there and play in the dirt. He wants to go out there every day. He did “help” Grandpa with it, so he can claim some...

I have also had both hips replaced. It’s definitely harder to get off the ground than it used to be. No raised boxes yet - spent too much building the greenhouse, but we’ll get there eventually. Beds in greenhouse are about knee high. I think they can be built up over time.

This is what we’ve been up to since I posted last: I did jump the gun and put out one romaine lettuce plant that I had started in the house after I cut the stump off a head of it, and some short rows of 4-year old pea seeds. The peas probably won’t grow, but Grandson wanted to plant...

Alaska is beautiful. We love it up there. I have become spoiled with home grown veggies. I’m not sure why I do it, but it seems that once every winter I buy a tomato or two from the grocery store. They look so pretty. Then I try to eat them, and they have no flavor! Sounds like you grow...

Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Well, our weather forecast was a non-event. We got a dusting of snow and no wind. Can't say I feel bad about that. Roads were closed one county over, so it came that close. How did you turn out? I hope it wasn't too bad. I garden, but more vegetables than flowers. I love flowers and would like...

Sounds like we could get some. We’re right on the line of 1-3” and 3-6”. Last I heard, it’s supposed to have some wind with it. Like 30 mph or so.
