The AMERAUCANA thread

Pics
His comb is kinda wonky, isn't it? Almost looks like a single comb. His color is stunning though!
True, he is not the best bred. Amerucanas are hard to come by in my area. So I got the color and size that I wanted. I got them to be yard ornaments and add a some color to the egg basket. Which until I lost his mate. They were doing quite nicely.

Thank you! I may just have to contact him for some chicks next spring! What do yours look like? I would love to see them!!

I need to get some good, updated pictures. It's on my to-do list, lol. Then I will totally post them 😁
Sorry these are not the best pics... but I figure something most be better than nothing. They are in with Mottled Orps so most of their chick pics are difficult to tell apart. (Note to self, make notes next time). And I lost many on a broken phone.

The Panda face are the Splits, the white headed one is Popcorn the cockerel who went through a very patchy stage but has since become more spotty. I really need updated pics.
The splits have become full black with a little white left in the face here and there and like, one pink toe per foot, 😋

This has been a fun discussion! I too am in LOVE with the mottled and erminette colors! There are a couple of people here in CA that are working on erminette and I really want them! I have finally gotten blue, black and a splash pullets and I have a self blue rooster…so for now I’m going to focus on black and self blue until I can get a black rooster to use with my blue and splash girls. I also just acquired a bantam wheaten breeding pair 😍 I am hoping to get some more from a lady just north of me that has brown reds, buffs, and whites!! In LF and bantam.

I also got my first Ameraucana eggs this week! 😍😍😍

Ok, so I'm currently hatching out some self blues for the first time and I have a question for those of you who may have hatched them out before. Would it be normal for a lavender to hatch out looking EXACTLY like a blue? I thought they'd look like a splash kinda, but this baby (only 1 has hatched so far) definitely looks like a blue. Did I accidentally get the wrong variety in my order?

Are you talking about Debra Hogan? That's who I'm trying to get Brown Red and Buff from.

Waaay back in the Mottled Am thread I saw they said it was Speckled Sussex that was bred in for the Mottling gene, and that it took forever and ever to get the red out.
Wonder if mottled Orps could be used instead? Leg color and such would remain constant so it seems like less work? I’m still learning though! Probably was a reason!

Who in CA is breeding the erminette colors? Those are so pretty too.
