The AMERAUCANA thread

Yes, thank you. I know what they look like as adults, I was just getting paranoid they may not be growing properly because i've heard that as young as 4 weeks old males will start getting black feathering in, of course, those areas adults have black feathers. Mostly in the breast, I guess i've heard, but right now all of mine have pale breast feathers.
Thank you a lot though.
Ohhh okay! Sorry :) I wouldn’t be paranoid, my one wheaten had no black for a really long time. Maybe just a slow feathering baby :) Keep posting pictures though, wheatens fascinate me! 😍

Hatched some bantam Ameraucanas and they’re just adorable 🥰 BBS and wheaten 😍 Out of 6 blue Am eggs we got 5 blues and one splash :) SO fluffy and sweet! Just had to share the cuteness!

Today is hatch day for the white Ameraucanas! 4/7 eggs have hatched so far (there was 8 but one was infertile). 2 more are showing signs of moving and pipping, and just one egg hasn’t pipped yet… if I get 6/7 I’ll be ecstatic, especially considering these eggs were shipped from Oklahoma to me in California! Here’s a couple of adorable pictures! Millie is already such and amazing mom and so gentle.

That is great news!!! How exciting :) Look at those cute little fluffers! :love

We have 6 babies now! So exciting!! It’s so weird how the chicks can be colored like this when young but they’ll all turn out to be white. I expected them to all be yellow like white leghorns.
I know! It’s super weird!! I have a super dark chick that’s currently turning white. It’s fascinating!

I got 2 extra Ameraucana eggs with my order of white Ameraucana eggs, but one egg was labeled differently, and I think this chick came out of it! Looks like she’s turning out to be a blue Ameraucana, which I’m definitely not complaining about! Now I’m just really hoping this one turns out to be a girl! I was going to buy bbs Ameraucana eggs in hopes for a blue girl (I got splash girls both times I ordered bbs chicks), so this seems like fate to me lol.

All of the babies are doing fantastic with mama Millie and they run around in the 35-40 degree mornings like nothing!! They hardly even go under her to warm up during the day since it gets warm! I have a suspected boy already, right now my prediction is 2 boys and 4 girls!

Couple pics of my teenage bantam Ams 😍 This age group is Blue and Blacks! They got to upgrade to the new Cooplex and they’re loving it! I’m loving the black girls and my blue cockerel a lot. Gonna be so pretty all filled out!

And I managed to get a couple good pictures of our trophy winning bantam wheaten rooster. He’s so handsome 😍

Sooo cute!! I really want some bantam Ameraucanas too! I need some more bantams in my flock after losing 2 older ones this year, bantams just make the cutest little sounds haha. Gypsy hen has bantam lavender, black and wheaten Ameraucanas… that makes it hard to choose lol!

Well.. the male i was concerned about seems to finally be developing darkened breast feathers. Just a few, but it’s there. I lost my other males-every single one- after I tried to upgrade their pen. I am still baffled to how(though it was thunder storming for a week straight, they were sheltered and fully feathered out) , but all of my males got sick with what seemed like coccidiosis and this boy is the only survivor. The others were getting dark quicker than him; i had a blue wheaten cockerel who looked to have the typical almost entirely Blue body of a juvenile. He was the first to die. The females are still fine though, I have two and both are has healthy as ever, unaffected by the disease completely.

I have more eggs hatching in 4 days from a different breeder- 16 viable right now! Going to try and be more careful with that batch, because this group really struggled in terms of livability. The trio I have right now are little sweethearts though.
