āž” Quail Hatch AlongšŸ„š

Man, wish my hatching had gone as well as ManitobaQuail's. When all was said and done, out of 28 eggs, I had 8 hatch, 14 infertile, and 6 with only partial development. Of the 8 that hatched, I assisted with three because they got shrinkwrapped. Two of those are walking on their hocks, but with movement and vit. B supplements, seem to be improving. Here are five of the eight.

The youngest never really got "fluffy". Looks like it didn't grow all of its down in completely. Anyone run into this before? Did the chick grow normal feathers in as it aged? Here is how it looks now.

Where did your eggs come from and what was your humidity level throughout?

Has anyone ever made quail pot pie???
No, but it sounds fairly easy. Substitute quail for blackbirds.

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king.

You might try the cup drinkersā€”not the spring loaded ones, but the ones that operate via a float valve.

This is like the ones I got. Iā€™m not done with my watering system so I havenā€™t tested them yet. They keep the little cup full but no more. The birdies donā€™t do anything besides drinking the water.

thanks!

I never hear of these. I have cups, but they need to peck. They do work great with my quail though. The link you posted was no longer available but I found some others on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PFKWJVP/?tag=backy-20
I love that they advertise them as "China-free". :gig

This is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q2JSGW7/?tag=backy-20
They have to peck for the cup to refill, but it takes very, very little pressure to activate the valve.
Have them in the cart to order! Thanks

I had two that were almost bald when born. The one that only had a few dark feathers filled in fine and I canā€™t tell him from the others. I also had a blond one that filled in but never really grew. Found her dead today but I think it was a broken neck.

I have also had several semi-nekkids. The absolute worst didn't make it, but a couple grew normal fluff and then feathers in a eventually (I think they came out just a wee bit 'under-done'). I do have one (dear little Casper) who has a permanent bald spot over most of one wing :/

Has anyone ever made quail pot pie???

No, but I've wanted to forever!

I think the trick will be keeping it from being greasy.
