Im still in the middle of my first hatch. Out of 9 eggs 4 have hatched? Im assuming thats all that will but still giving them time

Right now eggs from cage 1 has a 0% hatch rate an cage 2 has a 80%. Both cages have been laying for about a 2 months now.

I think 4 out of 9 is pretty good if you factor in young birds, and a 6 hour power outage on a 30*F night.

*Sits and waits for more bators*
I'm looking into making a homemade bator to do a small hatch.

Can't wait to get ideas.

Just finished my first incubator. I plugged it in and let it run for a while to check it. I built it based on the posts from this site. THANK YOU ALL. I used a 24 VAC power supply I had laying around and stole a contactor off of an old AC unit that was laying around. I ran to town and bought a heat only thermostat and hooked it in. Now my temp ranges from 99 to 100.

I found at a junk store, a CONAIR curling iron thing that blows hot air through the barrel. So I took the barrel off and used it.

I also took an old PC fan I had and hooked up a little 12Vdc power supply continuous to it for circulation.

A $2.00 picture frame from walmart gave me the glass for the top and well, a cheap knockoff of everybody else bater on here.

I made a change to the incubator. I went to NAPA and picked up an old Ford solenoid for $11. I ran the 12V that was powering my fan through the thermostat and it pulled in the solenoid. Those old solenoids will pass 110V without any problems.

The problem I did have was that it burned through the wire in the thermostat that passed the voltage to pull in the solenoid. So I soldered a bypass on the tstat and it works like a champ. Having that room tstat on there keeps the bater between 99 and 100 degrees. It never hits 98 and never hits 101.

Oh, one other thing, The room tstats don't go to 100, only 90. But when you take it apart, you can see that it is a simple adjustment to change the calibrated scale on them.

The modification to the tstat is the black wire jumper. Also, the solenoid grounds against the frame. The small stud on the right is just there for show. The red wire with the wirenut goes to (-)12vdc. The black is (+)12vdc.

I may need to upgrade my thermostat to a newer model if mine wears out. Those new ones look more sensitive than my old mercury bubble model. The solenoid is probably overkill but I like it. A small automotive relay is rated for up to 240V AC but its hard to explain how to wire one. Its simple to explain how to wire a solenoid an ya don't have to solder it.

I would love to build my own incu. but I know nothing about wiring.
And I sure as heck wont let my hubby do it as he hooked up a cd player once and it would only work if the headlights were on lol

He reversed the main power wire with the back light/dash light wire. A lot of people do that.

My cousin had his plumbing so messed up that the bathroom sink had to be running for the kitchen sink to work. I'm still lost how he did that?
