It would help to have a picture. Baby chicks can have a few very small areas when they are losing their baby fluff and growing feathers. How old is is/ are the babies? Is it just one chick?
What breed? Can also be mites if it is an older chick..... It can also be feather picking from the other chicks if they are not getting enough protein.

there are babies they are 3 weeks old too.

That's why they aren't laying!!  It's called a moult.  They loose their feathers and replace them with new ones!

You are right. It was a smaller egg, but still wonderful. The yolk was very rich. I gave her extra protein this week. I took a can of tuna, a raw egg, and some grated cheese & mixed it up with some crushed ice (it was hot outside). She scarfed it up & 2 days later I had this egg. I'm going to continue the extra protein every couple of days.
