Beak and Claw Trimming

A very helpful article on trimming chickens' beaks and nails!
Thank you for the article. It is clear and concise. I have an animal dremel like one - my grandson and I tried to take some of my handicapped hen's upper beak down and it feels like we got no where.

These battery operated callus removers grind well, especially when new. They are quiet and quickly remove beak material, I'd give one if these a try! :)
Thank you for this informative article! My Gracie's claws were getting out of hand!(no pun intended 😅)

Great instructive article! I have a couple birds with really long claws, and this helped a lot.
Thanks for this! You explained the steps and the "whys" very well! I have a special needs chicken who doesn't have use of one leg, so her claws on that foot don't get worn down naturally. I worry about bleeding, so the info about the blood line is particularly helpful. Thanks! Good info as always!
good instructions. wish you had digitally drawn a mark where the blood line is, because it's very hard to see if you are not looking closely. guineas have fast-growing claws. I once had one, before I found BYC. wish I had seen this article before. like the photos and lists of what you use. where do you get the clippers and roller? amazon? a local store? I'm just curious.
well, there's my 5 cents. bye!

Blood lines move up or down depending on how long the claw gets. Try trimming outside in the sunlight, on white claws you can usually see the vein fairly easily.
Really good, step-by-step explanation.

Nice article, good pictures to illustrate. I never considered a pedi tool, I’ve always used a dremmel tool for a quick touch to smooth the nails after clipping. The pedi tool sounds like a great alternative
