Still too frozen to plant or anything garden related. Receiving about 10 to 12 inches between the next few days. All depressing. But I'm starting some seedlings, and I ordered some seed potatoes and seeds yesterday. I can't contain myself; I have to grow something soon. LOL.
Congratulations on your newly found hobby. Welcome to the forum. Beautiful flock you have. How old are the chickens? Where are you located? Nice and neat setup/build. Haven't seen the full picture of your coop. How are you ventilating? How many nesting boxes? Wishing you the best of luck to you...
Buy the largest enclosed dog kennel you can find. How many chickens are you expecting to keep? If you are using chicken math, 9+9=18 chickens. I have aerial predators (eagles, hawks, owls, falcons), my run (enclosed dog kennel) has kept my girls safe. Where are you located? I want to warn you of...
The new girls love to eat it. But it's their first winter. They are not fond of walking on it. They are lucky this year, because the real snow is holding off for NOW. Minnesota winter can hurt the soul and sole. They will get the hang of it, once it gets started.
Yes, the previous owner could be correct. Chickens can be aggressive toward each other at times. This behavior could be related to boredom, among other things. Or this could come from an aggressive Rooster mounting.
Just wanted to add on to this. Adds some clutter, additional water and feed stations. Then allow nature to happen. They WILL get picked on regardless of age and size. I integrated 4 adults to one 15 week old. Guess who is not at the bottom of the pecking order? I love watching their interactions.
@Launchpad. I will put that in my arsenal. Was saving the sardines for chicken treats. I never caught two at once. Greed will soon get the best of you. Will try this, just to make sure nothing is around. Happy trapping.
