Hello there!
I have a one and a half year old female coturnix quail who lost her bonded friend due to old age, and there is a posting for two free female quails on my local Facebook marketplace. One is a button quail and the other is a California quail.
I am hesitant to mix species. All are...
Yes she was the last to hatch and I assisted. She was 1/4 of the size of the others. She wasn’t eating at the beginning so I fed her with an eye dropper, a watered down mix of egg yolk and crumbled feed. Then she had constipation so I was giving her an eye dropper of molasses and water one a day...
Thank you. Being a first timer I am doubting myself a lot, especially when it comes to feed. But, I know with the amount of research I have done that I am following all the advice I can! So hopefully I am a good mommy and the amount of care wouldn’t have been the difference between life and...
Thank you for your story! I tried for over a month to keep a Bachelor Pen but they could not keep the peace or establish a Pecking Order, and they would crow at all hours, all throughout the night even when I kept them in a dark quiet outbuilding. So I had to say goodbye to them. Anyway, my goal...
I had two hens and six roosters. We kept the hens and sold the Roos. We originally kept one rooster but then the ladies were being stressed out by him so we said goodbye to him too. Now I only have Speedy! I think I am going to look in to getting some more laying hens so she will not be lonely.
I am so devastated to announce that my Coturnix Quail hen, Tux, died tonight. She was healthy, eating, no injuries or warning. She had a difficult hatch in the Spring, and was 1/4 size of her hatch-mates. Early this morning I found her facing a corner in a part of the cage she never ventures to...
Hahaha oh my gosh I LOVED reading about the adventure of your quail attempting to sit on the eggs and that poor Aragorn isn’t so good at it lol. I think giving fake eggs a try might help her stay more calm. I think it is so cute that they tend to lay in the same area. If Tux doesn’t get off her...
This is sooo helpful! That is the sound! But hers is so loud I can hear it in the house, which is kind of fun because then I know to go and watch her lay. I love the term “egg song” aw!
She gets quite upset if I come near the cage after she lays... about 2 hours after she seems to calm down...
My Tux is 3mos old and has been increasingly vocal while laying.
She was 1/4 of the size of the others at hatch and had a swollen gland above her vent for the first few weeks. I had to help massage her belly to make bowel movements for the first three weeks to avoid constipation and mucky...
