    Multiple Quail species together?

Hello there! I have a one and a half year old female coturnix quail who lost her bonded friend due to old age, and there is a posting for two free female quails on my local Facebook marketplace. One is a button quail and the other is a California quail. I am hesitant to mix species. All are...

    Quail died unexpectedly

Yes she was the last to hatch and I assisted. She was 1/4 of the size of the others. She wasn’t eating at the beginning so I fed her with an eye dropper, a watered down mix of egg yolk and crumbled feed. Then she had constipation so I was giving her an eye dropper of molasses and water one a day...

    Quail died unexpectedly

Thank you. Being a first timer I am doubting myself a lot, especially when it comes to feed. But, I know with the amount of research I have done that I am following all the advice I can! So hopefully I am a good mommy and the amount of care wouldn’t have been the difference between life and...

    Quail died unexpectedly

Thank you for your story! I tried for over a month to keep a Bachelor Pen but they could not keep the peace or establish a Pecking Order, and they would crow at all hours, all throughout the night even when I kept them in a dark quiet outbuilding. So I had to say goodbye to them. Anyway, my goal...

    Quail died unexpectedly

I had two hens and six roosters. We kept the hens and sold the Roos. We originally kept one rooster but then the ladies were being stressed out by him so we said goodbye to him too. Now I only have Speedy! I think I am going to look in to getting some more laying hens so she will not be lonely.

    Quail died unexpectedly

Thank you. It is true worst! Especially when it is so unexpected with no warning. I hate not knowing “why” 😢 :hugs

    Quail died unexpectedly

Best of luck! Wishing you a successful “last hatch” of the year and plenty of fertile Calicos! Can’t wait to see the colouring turn out

    Quail died unexpectedly

Thank you, and thank you for all of your support along this whole journey. How are your chicks? Did you do a new hatch?

    Quail died unexpectedly

I am so devastated to announce that my Coturnix Quail hen, Tux, died tonight. She was healthy, eating, no injuries or warning. She had a difficult hatch in the Spring, and was 1/4 size of her hatch-mates. Early this morning I found her facing a corner in a part of the cage she never ventures to...

Hen seems like she is in pain while laying

Hahaha oh my gosh I LOVED reading about the adventure of your quail attempting to sit on the eggs and that poor Aragorn isn’t so good at it lol. I think giving fake eggs a try might help her stay more calm. I think it is so cute that they tend to lay in the same area. If Tux doesn’t get off her...

Hen seems like she is in pain while laying

Poor thing, they aren’t fertilised eggs so her brooding wouldn’t do any good! Love the term “egg song” so cute!

Hen seems like she is in pain while laying

This is sooo helpful! That is the sound! But hers is so loud I can hear it in the house, which is kind of fun because then I know to go and watch her lay. I love the term “egg song” aw! She gets quite upset if I come near the cage after she lays... about 2 hours after she seems to calm down...

Hen seems like she is in pain while laying

My Tux is 3mos old and has been increasingly vocal while laying. She was 1/4 of the size of the others at hatch and had a swollen gland above her vent for the first few weeks. I had to help massage her belly to make bowel movements for the first three weeks to avoid constipation and mucky...

    My (converted) Quail Coop!

Thank you for your advice and letting me know what you do! Buttons are so cute. Yes mine are Coturnix. They are used to having an inside temp of around 70-80F, so around 20-25C depending on the time of day. I have been putting them outside when I am home, so they have experienced 15C during the...

    Fee gene inheritance?

Hi Kiwi!!! She is so pretty. Thank you for the explanation of “fee” that makes so much sense now. Well, I think Speed Racer looks beautiful, no matter what she “is” haha! She definitely has a light coloured feather with black markings. I will look up Italian Speckled! Thanks!

    Fee gene inheritance?

Yes I saw these! She was totally white and black after getting rid of her baby fluff and then she has gradually yellowed. So interesting! I asked for a dozen “Pansy” eggs and he said he only had six, so he supplemented with “Celadon” eggs as an apology. Out of the 8 that hatched I have an...

First eggs at 6 weeks on the dot!

The suggested space per quail is one square foot so I think you are good, especially if you are able to give them things to keep them interested and less grumpy and stressed like yummy weeds and grass clippings! As for the garden, I would be nervous about that too! Hardware cloth isn’t too...

    My (converted) Quail Coop!

My partner and I converted 🐰Murphy’s hutch into a coop for our quail chicks! I suppose they are teenagers now, very close to adulthood! They are five weeks old and are always so happy when I bring their cage outside, so I I figured it is a good warm evening for them to spend their first night...
