Easter Eggers

The Easter Egger is not really a breed. They are relationed to the breeds Ameraucanas and...
Pros: egg laying
Cons: none
Friendly and good layers. Love getting colored eggs each morning!
Pros: colored eggs!!!
Cons: unreliable layer
the only reason to buy an Easter Eggers is for the novelty of blue or green eggs if you get them for any other reason prepare to be disappointed their not that great. BUT i only bought them for the novelty so ill give them a five out of five
Pros: Dog-like, sweet, GREAT layers
Cons: Cross beak is prone:(
These are honestly the best chickens! When they were younger two of the 4 were a little tough to handle, but now those two are the sweetest, most out-going chickens I have!! They are very dependable layers! I think all of them lay every day, or just miss one day per week. Not to mention the beautiful blue eggs I get!

This is just a story that I think sums up my girl, Stir Fry:) I was sitting on a chair outside, and she was looking up at me like she wanted to jump up(like the looks dogs give). I told her to come on up, and she literally jumped up on the chair and sat on my lap for like 10 minutes while I just pet her. She is the sweetest little thing and loves to help me, especially when I'm cleaning out the coop or getting them food. She is a very curious girl and is not afraid to go out and adventure while free-ranging. Stir fry is definitely the leader of the group, not to mention she layed the first egg!

All of my EE's are absolutely gorgeous, on the inside and out!

Now to the not so happy aspect of the breed: the fact that cross beak runs in their breed specifically.... Long story short I had a very sweet chick, Scarlette, who developed a very bad case of cross beak when she was about two weeks. She would hang out with me inside while I made her special food:) She ended up not making it.

Even knowing that I could get another cross beak chick I would still go with the breed because they are that amazing, and frankly Scarlette taught me a lot so it was worth it:)

Hope this helps!!

Pros: friendly, curious, great layer, can be held, beautiful large eggs.
Cons: none
My EE is the sweetest little hen. She runs up to you like a little beagle, and she never bites or runs away. She lays beautiful, large, blue-green eggs daily, and is by far the favorite of my hens.
Pros: very friendly
Cons: none
I love my Easter Eggers, they are so sweet. As soon as they see ya they come running looking at you like did you bring me a goody. Love this chicken.
Pros: friendly,good producers, winter hardy
Cons: sometimes lay outside of nest
These were my first chickens, and they lay around 5 eggs a week! They are small eaters and entertaining pets.

Pros: Beautiful, curious, green eggs
Cons: Sometimes skittish, not very good layers
I got my first EE in 2009, and they quickly became my favorite standard breed. At the moment, I have 1 adult rooster (my top roo, Ugly Burd) two pullets, and 4 little babies. I will definitely always have EEs in my flock!

Pros: Blue and green eggs
I love the different shades of blue and green eggs that mine lay ! I have 3 laying and 2 that should lay by July.
Pros: Early to mature, first to start laying eggs, curious, friendly and good free-rangers
Cons: Roosters seem like rapists since they mature so quickly compared to other breeds
If I could start my flock all over again, it would be with EE's only! I adore these little birds! They are super smart, friendly and sociable. They matured VERY quickly and all looked so different! I started my flock in the beginning of August so I was not expecting any eggs until spring. My little EE's started popping out eggs in -40 degree weather!!!! They lay constantly, rarely miss a day! One of my bantam hens lays a GIANT size egg that is usually double yolked! We are breeding that one for sure!

Really, get a few of these birds for your flock. You will not be disappointed! They are wonderful! We now have mostly EE's in both sizes. They are such happy little birds! Mine come and say hello every morning and let me pet them and pick them up. I didn't handle them much, but they seem very comfortable with me touching and handling them now as adults. They are also great hens, happy to let the rooster do his job. (None of my other birds are too happy when the rooster comes to call, but the EE's squat right down and allow MULTIPLE roosters to mate with them)

I will always have EE's around. The green/blue eggs are wonderful! Really, I rank this as one of the all time best chickens. I have had many different kinds and the EE's continue to delight me. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them!
Pros: Friendly, calm, beautiful plumage, and colorful eggs!
Cons: Not a true breed
My Easter Eggers have a lot of personality! They're sweet, gentle, and they follow me around the yard. There is one, however, that relentlessly pecks at my exposed toes, pant legs, and sleeves...but I'm sure that's just a chicken thing. They are beautiful to look at, puffy muff cheeks included, and I have received many compliments on them. They are all fairly talkative, but not loud enough to bother the neighbors. I like the pea combs, especially in the climate I live in (fairly cold winters are possible). It's hard not to become attached to them, because they are so friendly! Kids love throwing treats for them over the fence, and they don't seem to eat a whole lot for their medium size. I appreciate that they actually leave my garden plants alone, instead gobbling up all of the slugs and bugs! Good bug control! And who can resist such beautifully-colored eggs? I will always have Easter Eggers in my flock!

Pros: Clucks rarely, lays good, friendly toward me and other chickens
Cons: NONE
I have had Easter Eggers for 3 years and by far they are awesome. I love the pattern that is in mine's fur, and they are pretty to look at. I highly recommend Easter Eggers.
Pros: Good egg layer, quirky personalities, gorgeous feathers and beards
Cons: Mistaken for Ameraucanas, Araucanas, etc. Also kind of flighty.
I really like my Easter Eggers (whom I thought were Ameraucanas the first few months of their lives). They have the funniest little quirks and are super floofy. One of the two has finally started laying a pretty sage-green egg every other day and loves to announce it. (She is very loud) They both are kind of flighty and love to fly the coop. Aside from the noise and flightiness, they are some of the best (and most adorable) chickens I've owned.
Pros: All colors, puffy cheeks, rainbow eggs, friendly, smart
Cons: Easily bullied... :(
I love my ees! They are smart and friendly and will hopefully lay pretty eggs, mine are 14 weeks. I love their cheeks and their tiny combs, they look like hawks :). Great!!
Edit: 10 months old now and an update! One of my girls lays pretty green eggs every day, and the other laid her first blue one since molting this morning! Unfortunately, both of my girls are easily bullied, especially by my BA, and are missing feathers. They have sweet personalities and one tries to follow me into the house! :p
Pros: Colorful Egg's, Colorful Chickens, Easy To Hatch, Easy To Raise
Cons: Wont Stay Out Of Anything, Easy Catch For Vermits
For the beginner you can not ask for a better bird to work with ....
Go to the roost well or will cuddle as a group on the ground ......
Good layers of multi color egg's, Blue, Green, Brown, Pink, or an off white as they age .......
Easley kept in a coop for long periods of time ......
Will go broody from time to time .......
Very friendly and some times way to friendly as to be waiting by my car door when I get home and following me to the front door or to the feed shed .....
Roosters do tend to mature fast and need to be thinned out before DE-feathering all the hens or hurting them ......
The Roosters can be aggressive towards one another to the point of exhaustion or loss .......

They do play well with others

Pros: Calm and docile and very friendly
Cons: A little Hen-pecked
My year old Roo is great. He does well with the hens and with my other Roo, a RIR. He is a little hen-pecked by some of my older girls, but he holds his own well enough.

Pros: Hardy
Cons: Can't tell what color they will lay until mature
Have 3 of these hens. One over 3 years old and still a very good layer. They tolerate desert heat and dryness. Very friendly toward other breeds.
Pros: Good Layer,Very Friendly and Curious,Smart, great foragers, easily trained.
Cons: Independent,broody
Oh man I love my Easter Eggers, they are independent but obedient at the same time,Super friendly and easily trained due to their curiosity, this breed is prone to jealousy. My hen Cookie was very jealous once of four ducks that I was paying a lot of attention to,so much so,that any time they came near me,she puffed up her feathers and rushed them all the way back to the lake!XD then she would stand guard at my side.Good Layer's of large green to blue eggs.I recommend not putting these chickens near breeds that are pecky because they will have their beard destroyed! My EE rooster is Very Nice!
Pros: great layers year round. friendly good kid chicken
they are great years round layers. they are very friendly
Pros: Attractive, Tall, Good Layers
Cons: Don't hold their own very well, Not too friendly
I really like my Easter Eggers. I think they're so pretty and I love their eggs. Those eggs have very thick shells. I wonder how chicks ever hatch from them. These were the prettiest chicks at the store. They grew into the prettiest birds. We have a red, a buff and a chocolate hen. They're nice enough, but they are the lowest on our totem pole in the flock. They are always missing a bit of feathers. Since being the closest to me, means the closest to treats and food, the other birds try to keep them away. I think this makes them the least friendly bird, so it is not their fault. I really like them. They are sweet girls.
