We butchered one. Some died or were killed. We have four left but now neither of us is willing to kill them. lol. I guess we are going to be keeping a few meat chickens for eggs. ^^ We will also get to hatch eggs since two are roosters!
It is supposed to be a rare breed but it looks like it might be one of two choices, a speckled sussex or a game chicken of some sort. Or some other breed? It is very 'bouncy'. If I open the brooder it is gone in a flash running around the room. Oh and it has some neck 'feathers' that are longer...
I think these are two roosters and two pullets. Am I correct?
These little ones, four weeks +, hated the flash so going to have to post a bunch of photos.
The top and the one on the left middle are the two I believe are Roosters.
The bottom dark one is, I believe, a pullet.
The two, maybe...
Bantam roosters are not big enough to eat, or at least not big enough to be worth it to me to butcher them. I am just planning ahead since there seems to be a couple of roosters in my month old bantams.
Is this freebie chick from McMurray a hen? I am hoping it is a rooster, which I figured it was since it was the free chick.
Here is a better photo of her/him but about a week earlier.
I know its early on them (three weeks) but is the Buff female or male and any ideas about the whites? There is one buff and are two whites in all the photos.
I got the Poultry Nutra Drench for them but have forgotten, and the bottle doesnt help, but how much do I give them? One drop in the mouth? Or what? lol Panicking!
I was concerned that the free chick would not have its vaccine since it was not listed in the numbers for vaccined so asked about it. They told me that any free chickens are given the same treatment as the bought chicks for free.
If you ever wondered well there's the answer. :D
I talked to the city office manager today. The city ordinance #95-6-8 allows 30 chickens per acre. There is a setback of 15 feet from adjoining properties. Other than that there are no regulations other than noise nuisance which applies to everything anyway.
Sounds good to me! :)
There are...
What do you all think? It needs a floor and a door and the chicken stuff like nesting boxes etc. Prettied up a bit would be nice too. I am also looking at the stump all those posts are leaning up against. If we incorporated it into a run at some later date I bet the chickens would love it.
My...
We are soon to have some baby chicks so looking for ideas on raising them. We have raised them before but predators killed them all twice. Killed them all in one fell swoop each time. Last time it happened we just could not handle it happening again.
Some years have passed and we are going to...
