Hey guys! Haven't been on too much this winter so I'm not sure if you remember me & I'm sure there are plenty of new folks on here that I've never met. Let me introduce myself....my name is Lucas and I have geese, ornamental ducks, and domestic ducks. My website is...
I usually mix two bags of poultry layer feed in with one bag of cracked corn for all my ducks. Is it okay to mix in a bag of steam rolled oats also? I don't think there would be a problem, just making sure.
P.S. Is it okay for chickens too?
Thanks!
I went back to put the chickens away today and noticed one still out in the pen. She was laying with her head and neck bent under her breast with her eyes closed. She was still breathing so we went in and every time we touched her she flopped around and rolled. One time she opened her eyes and...
My hens are on some eggs that should hatch within the next week. However, I hatched out some of their eggs in the incubator. I currently have two wood ducklings (regular and silver), 5 ringed teal ducklings, and 2 mandarin ducklings. I took them out in the aviary today for a little swim and just...
They hatched on May 10 so I thought it is time for some updated pictures. They are all getting feathers in and the runners are already standing so tall. They are also starting to quack just a little. And let me tell you, these are the nicest ducklings and goslings I've ever had, they eat out of...
I never thought silver sebrights could go broody, but she has been hanging out in the nest boxes often and she sometimes likes to sleep in them. Usually I go and collect eggs and she jumps right out and runs away. However, tonight I reached in her box to get the eggs and she didnt budge. She...
Have you ever seen any funny ads, ironic titles, etc.
Share them!
I just saw an ad for an incubator titled "Incubator for sale (will not last long) - $200"
haha makes it sound like its a crappy one!
I was watching my welsh harlequin ducklings (4 days old) yesterday. I can already tell their sexes by their bill color. However, I noticed that the females were peeping loud and clear and the male's peeps were raspy and a bit quieter. I think this might actually be a way to sex them by their...
I may just be worrying too much, but these are my first goslings and I have one pair, so I don't want to lose any. Is there anything I need to do differently for brooding? They are with 7 ducks in the brooder. Do I brood them the same as ducklings? They are a sebastopol pair from holderreads...
I got the email on Monday night and they arrived at six this morning, all healthy!
6 Fawn & White Runners (plus one extra)
6 Welsh Harlequins
A pair of Sebastopols!!!
Pictures down lower!
Nothing special, but I feel accomplished that I built it myself ....Its 4 ft. long and has a hardware cloth front and bottom....the top is how to get in to change things. This will be for my wild ducklings since they can't get out of it. I plan to drill a small hole in the top to put the plug...
Okay, today I took the eggs from the wood duck who was sitting on them for 3 weeks (I feel kind of bad, but I think it would be harder to take the babies from her). I also took some of the ringed teals eggs (she hasn't started sitting yet) and left one so she continues to lay. I candled the wood...
Okay so here is my situation, I have a wood duck hen sitting on about 9 eggs and she has been on them for almost 3 weeks. I also have a mandarin hen laying. She laid 6 eggs and never sat on them so I put them in the bator, they are now on day 7 and all of them look to be infertile. She has also...
Usually I can identify the wild breeds pretty quickly, but this has me puzzled. I live in Northern Ohio and I have never seen this bird before. It was on a pond near our house and luckily I had my camera, but I couldn't get to close, so the pics are a little blurry...any ideas?
My mandarin hen started laying almost a month ago. By now, she has six eggs and she hasn't started sitting. The first one she layed is probably almost a month old so I thought I will just incubate them myself. One has an indent in it, it looks like she poked it with her beak, I hope it is still...
I'm splitting a barn up into 3 different pens. One for my geese I will be getting and two for ducks. How high should I make the fence dividers in the barns. The geese will be raised with the ducklings, but they will be seperated as they grow older. Right now I have it planned at 33". Is that...
