I haven't posted on here in forever! Here is a selection of a few pics around the farm in the past year.

    Silkie thread!

I got them to actually look somewhat in my direction! The 'baby' is in the top two pics and she is growing out to be a stunning girl! She could use more foot feathering, but she got that from her mother, who isn't very heavy on foot feathering either. The mother is the third pic. Love her round...

    Silkie thread!

My favorite silkie rooster. Such a good-natured guy. Where does he end or begin? Mother on left, 4ish month old daughter on right. Neither wanted to look at me. The family resemblance is strong! Silkie in back has a thai/wyandotte cross chick, Silke/OEGB cross hen in front has a pure...

My Thai pair that I posted pictures of a lot in the past have matured a lot and have several grown 'kids'! They've whitened a lot, and are less colorful, but I think they're still gorgeous birds. The top two pics are the original pair, the next three are a few of their offspring. They have...

    Silkie thread!

5 should be fine. I've had a single silkie hen sit 5 large fowl eggs with all five hatching, and 4 turkey eggs with all 4 hatching, so she should be fine with 5 silkie-sized eggs!

I think my chick has decided to be a pullet! and two pictures of my sweetest rooster who's finally growing his crest back in

    Turkey Talk for 2014

An unstoppable force meets an immovable object! My double bearded young tom. His father was double bearded, and his mother was bearded, so he has some pretty strong beard genes I would say. They're starting to spar amongst themselves so soon we will butcher the excess toms and hens for...

    Silkie thread!

It depends on the bird, but the vast majority of mine molt in the fall. Most of my layer flock is molting heavily now. I find that they do their first 'real' adult molt between 1.5-2 years old.

My Thai rooster implores me not to look at his nakedness-this recent molt has been quite a traumatic experience, considering he now looks like this... When he normally looks like this. He'll probably not get all of his color back, as this color tends to get more white with age, but he is...

    Silkie thread!

This girl is beginning to recover from a rather harsh molt. She normally has a big bonnet crest but the whole back of her head now is still mostly bald with new pin feathers now finally coming in! From the front, she doesn't look too bad, but from the back, she still looks rather sad. She's...

    Silkie Cross Breeds

Here is the offspring of the exact pairing. The hens seemed none the worse for wear (when the silkie could actually catch them! Those little hens are fast and usually get away)

    Turkey Talk for 2014

I have turkey poults that were raised by silkies/silkie crosses and now think that they're silkies, even though they live with other turkeys now. Every time I let the silkies out, they come running and will strut all around them. They will also still run over when a hen or rooster does a food...

    Silkie thread!

Cute chick that hatched out in mid August, I let my broody sit one egg and this adorable baby has grown from it. This is the biological mother to the chick, she has distinctively large eggs for a silkie. The broody that actually hatched it is half silkie. She's the brown little hen. She is one...

A dragonfly (don't know the species, I think it might be a female blue dasher), regal moth on a purple heart plant, and a spearmint flower.

Penny is a Morgan, she is 18 years old. She always acts so prim and proper but she is a sweetheart once you get to know her. The dapple is my cousin's horse that she keeps on our pasture, her father was a thoroughbred and her mother was a draft, I believe a Belgian? She is 6 or 7 years old. She...

The butterfly is eating a partially rotten apple, if you happened to wonder what that was. The mushy overripe ones on the trees are irresistible to hordes of bumble bees, hornets, and butterflies. I've begun to enjoy photographing insects. It's so much easier to sneak up on a butterfly than it...

Beautiful, especially love the mountain shots. Pictures like this make me miss the scenery of winter, although I'm happy with the warmer weather here now!
