When I was 19-24, I had a part time job on a small ranch here in northern Michigan. I did some cutting for practical purposes but it wasn't anything like a western ranch or cutting competition. It could probably be called sorting. And I did it on an Arab/Saddlrbred although I did occasionally...
I got an email on Tuesday from the hatchery saying that the chicks shipped. The hatchery is in Ohio, we're in Michigan, so it was basically overnighted.
A grand total now of 12 dead.
12, out of 26. A 50% mortality rate.
The hatchery did give me a refund.
I have been wiping butts.
I'll leave them be for a few hours, check on them and three seemingly healthy chicks will be dead.
I have never had a high mortality rate like this before. It's a little scary and frustrating
I ave lost a total of 10 now. Did some stuff, checked back in, 3 seemingly healthy ones were dead.
Not cool.
PLEASE, anyone with advice or knowledge of what thic could be. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what's wrong with the chicks
I ordered 25 chicks
10 Partridge Rocks
5 Delawares
10 Cornish Rocks
I picked them up at the post office this morning. 3 were DOA, 1 died shortly after returning home, 2 died this evening and there's another that is on the verge of dying now.
2 that died recently got pushed into the water...
Usually the floppy ears and coloring show up in Boer crosses. Not always. I had some adorable LaMancha/Boers that were glossy black with little elf ears.
He's pretty stocky, but Pygmies are stocky.
He looks a bit like a lot of different breeds. He *could* have Alpine/Kiko/Myotonic or some...
I feed my dogs EarthBorn without any issues. They eat and LOVE the fish-based food.
To the OP, I would also recommend getting her checked by a vet. At that age, vomiting could be a sign of internal tumors.
Again, I'm very happy with EarthBorn but my mother makes her own dog food for her...
Yes, it is a small world
Wow, from being spoiled and loved to being spoiled and loved. Life is rough.
It makes me cry thinking about it, but it's tears of contentment, knowing that she's gone to the best possible home.
Oddly enough, the gelding I just bought, the lady is selling him...
If he's sweating a lot, you may need to get him in condition a little more.
Some horses do sweat more than others, but he'll have problems with dehydration and electrolyte imbalance if he sweats too much.
I would recommend getting a hold of ECTRA and find out if there is a mentor or...
Update:
Coming full circle ... we have sold DD's pony.
While she could have easily ridden her another year, we decided to sell her and get a horse. I didn't plan on aggressively marketing her. If she sold, she sold, if she didn't, she didn't. We would always give Apache a home. Well, I put...
I do competitive trail under UMECRA rules, which is basically endurance since we get even LESS time to complete our miles than endurance riders do (5 hrs, 25 minutes for a 25 miler vs. 6 hours for endurance riders). Ohio comp riders always make jokes about the Michigan rides.
If he's in very...
You need to do some more research before delving in to this.
Fencing would be better than chains, since goats will find ways to get themselves tangled. I do stake mine out for short periods of time in the summer and had a goat fall down a steep slope at the edge of the woods. Despite being an...
Long story.
The woman who was giving him to me was a 72 yr old widow with heart problems. Her husband (who died a few months ago) owned an 80 acre farm. However, the farm was in a trust and now that he's dead, she was told she had to move.
DBF told her about the "dower law" essentially a...
I'm very lucky. Where I live in Michigan, we have very few ticks. I've maybe only seen 2 in my 30+ years of living in this state.
A friend of mine moved down to Kentucky a few years ago and she had the vet out to give them their interstate health certificates. When he asked where she was...
We used to own a "proud-cut" Appaloosa gelding. But we didn't have kids at the time and he was halter-broke and rideable. He did act very studdy, mounted mares when they were in heat, but he was workable.
I've worked with stallions before (google Granted+// and Mi Fire Love+//, and no, none of...
I "inherited" a 13 yr old stallion, who up until a few days ago had not been handled EVER.
Once I was able to get a halter on him and work with him a bit, I noticed that only one testicle had descended. I called the vet about surgery. They said that it was their policy to send such a horse to...
Miss Heny, why do you think showing meat goats is so bad? My girls showed meat goats last year in showmanship, breed classes and obstacle course and they did fine. At least with our fair, you don't HAVE to show them as a meat project. You can also leave horns on them. Horns on meat goats are...
