I have two male zebra finches that I purchased around a month ago. I've had one of them for two months- Aaron- and the other for only four weeks- Ryan- but since introducing the youngest one to the oldest, I've noticed Aaron has lost lots of feathers and his tail is completely gone.
I've been...
I suggest taking her to the vet as soon as you possibly can. I've no experience so far with any serious illness in my flock so I'm afraid I can't help you but if she continues to act like that, she could be very ill and might infect your entire flock with whatever she has, so it's best to safe...
Using a syringe is the best way but make sure to get it down the throat. Personally, I don't have much experience with force-feeding hens but someone else might.
Hope your hen is okay and makes a full recovery

When I went to check on the chickens this morning, I noticed Eden's comb was pale and droopy. She'd just finished laying an egg and the egg was perfectly fine.
She's running around chasing bugs, she's eating normally and drinking normally, everything she usually does is fine.
My other...
Very nice! Can't wait to hear what happens in the near future and how this goes. Keep us updated on your chicks and their hatching! Always excited to hear of people hatching chicks.
Rachel.
Very sad to hear of this. Just glad there are some survivors, even if you lost one chicken. Wish you the best of luck for the future and I'll be praying that it doesn't happen again. So terrible to lose a beloved pet.
Rachel.
Welcome to this BYC. I'm glad you decided to start down the chicken route, they make such lovely pets! Anyway, I wish you the best in your experience and hope that you do get chickens because they're beautiful- mine even love hugs and kisses!
Rachel.
I love red sex links. They have such a unique red colour and my Beatrice, my only layer and the first to do so, is so beautiful. They're also very kind natured and Beatrice loves to cuddle. She also lays very big brown eggs and is such a regular layer. I highly recommend this chicken to anyway...
I've read a few, actually a lot, of posts that are completely against keeping chicks with older chickens. I raised Beatrice, along with two roosters I had to give away, from the moment she was a week old and I've had her ever since. She's now 23/24 weeks old and lives with two Black Australorps...
So, after giving Kenny and Mac away to a farm, I decided to get a new chicken for Beatrice to hang out with.
I just got it about an hour ago and in that time, I've noticed some of its top beak is missing and it definitely likes to go outside. I had it in a cage and then it jumped out of it and...
My beautiful Beatrice, a red sex link, started laying a few days ago. She'd only started laying three days ago- including one today that has me worrying.
It is soft in some spots and a very light brown with dark spots. Her usual eggs are a beautiful brown colour unlike this one. I'm concerned...
Thanks for this, it was very helpful. I have three chickens but I'm hoping to get another so I'm planning to build a tractor. Will take all of this into mind in the future!
Rachel.
Thanks! She was around 21 weeks when we first found the egg. I got one today and it was very soft, as well as white with brown speckles unlike her usual very brown ones. Do you know if this is because she doesn't get enough calcium?
I got my first egg a few days ago, everyone! It was laid by my beautiful Beatrice and was just snuggled in the corner of their small outside area.
I'm so excited. I'll try and get a photo for you guys, it's still in my fridge!
Rachel.
So sad to hear this. I have yet to lose a chicken but I had to give two away because they turned out to be roosters. I can't imagine losing my only remaining three chickens!
Sorry for you loss. Midnight looks like a beautiful bird.
Rachel.
