My chicks are 7 weeks old a light dusting of the DE has not hurt them any. They don't even know it's there. I don't put it in or near the food.

Yes I get my DE at tractor supply it is food grade DE

Pine shavings mixed with a little DE as a deep litter method is working great for me, I would be careful putting scraps in he coop that is where the smell and flies are coming from. I give mine veg. Scraps and pick up what they don't eat in an hour or so.

Yes I just have food in the run. When the weather gets cold in the fall I will move it to the coop. I will make a lid/ table to go over it to keep it dry. Thanks

Any ideas on keeping the food dry out in the run. I have a galvanized feeder. I have been covering it at night but now here I am at work and it is raining. I know the food is going to be mush when I get home
