I checked on my 5 chicks this afternoon, only to find one dead. It’s face and upper body were wet, but the back half was completely dry. Is it possible we have a snake trying to eat the chicks? What can I do to protect them? What else could have happened to the chick?
Our chicks hatched this morning, and they were getting fluffy, but then the 7th chick hatched and now most of them are wet again and no longer fluffy except their heads. Is the humidity too high? There’s one last chick working to hatch. I don’t want them to freeze from being too wet! Help
I have a 3 year old golden laced polish acting really lethargic, wings out, tail down, mouth open, pale face. It wasn’t terribly hot in our area today, probably only got to 90° if that, any advice would be appreciated. Doesn’t seem egg bound but can kinda hear her when she’s breathing. She’s our...
We just had a broody hen hatch 2 eggs today (happy Mother’s Day) but they’re in the highest nesting boxes. Do I move them to a lower spot? Or leave them way up high? Thanks in advance
These babies were hatched at home. Trying to figure out how many are boys. Also on the white/red one, do you know a breed? And same question for number 7?
dad was Wyandotte, moms are either red sex link, orphington, rhode island red (and orphington and barred rock/Dominique & black australorp-...
So we had a buff orphington go broody. We got her 2 chicks, she was doing great with them. It’s been about 2-3 weeks and I went to check this morning, and both were dead in the straw. With all the rain, could they have suffocated or drowned underneath momma? 😭
Hi! Our run is so muddy and flooded from all this Texas rain. The only stuff feed stores have is lava sand. Is this acceptable to use either for dust bath, or coop ground covering for the time being?
I got two new Easter eggers from Atwood’s (last time we got EE’s from there all 4 were 100% boys), but this time the guy “guaranteed” they were females. However, they are reddish brass colored and always have been. But I also heard that rust color means boy. How much of this is true?
I’m terrible at sexing chicks. Any thoughts on these? The range between 1-3 weeks. Dad is a Wyandotte. Eggs are either 1) orphingtons, 2) dominiques/barred rock 3) golden sex links 4) australorp 5) RIR
We had an incubator chick hatch last night at 2 am. I ended up taking her from momma chicken 2 days ago (not thinking any would hatch) so she could keep up with her other 8 babies (this one was a week after the first few), she was doing fine and I heard her chirping at 6:30am. I checked on her...
This babe was stuck in her egg, shrink wrapped in half her membrane. At the advice of others, we helped get her a little more out of the egg, but then once she was completely egg free, I noticed her navel. Is there any coming back from this, can she be a healthy chick with a good life?
I am using this incubator, but I’m not sure how to check the humidity. This is my first time hatching our own chicks so any help is appreciated (one of our chickens is also trying to hatch some, so that’ll be interesting to compare).
