    Sunday dinner!

In our home growing up we always had a big Sunday dinner. After church Sunday morning mom would get home and start cooking. We would always have about 10 or more to feed and mom would pull out all the stops. A Sunday dinner would consist of chicken and dumplings with cornbread, maybe pot roast...

“Holy doodle, look at the size of that thing!”

My wife called me this morning and told me that one of our hens was making a racket (egg song). This is quite unusual because for some reason our girls never sing for us. She went out to check on them and they were all on the ground scratching and eating bugs but no eggs. She did notice Lucy...

    Is this frost bite?

We have had temps as low as -5 degrees Fahrenheit for the past few nights. I noticed this on our white leghorn this morning and was concerned it was frostbite. I took these pics this evening when I returned from work.

    Christmas trees

So my question is do you decorate for Christmas before or after thanksgiving. We used to decorate the Friday after Thanksgiving but I changed jobs and I now have to work then. So now we try to decorate whenever we get a chance. I am a firm believer in letting thanksgiving have its place lord...

    Red breast

My golden comet has been broody for the last several days. Today I got her out of the nesting box and noticed the feather on her breast bone area is bare and red. She is also missing feathers on her neck. l know it’s molting season and I assume that is the reason but I just want to know for...

    Broody Golden Comet

Our golden comet, Lucy has went broody. As far as the brooding goes I’ve got her out of the nest and put her on the roost. While I was gathering eggs this evening I noticed her egg was very light almost pink. Is the egg color change normal?

    Purina Layer Feed

Good day all! I posted about 6 weeks ago about the Health Harvest chicken feed that Walmart had started to carry and since then I’ve had a good experience with that feed and would highly recommend it. I recently received a coupon from Tractor Supply Co for 50% off Purina feed. I purchased the...

    Panting, runny nose and sneezing.

What is wrong with her? She is sitting on the roosting bar panting, wings spread with a runny nose “clear” and panting. She has electrolytes in her water and I’ve seen her drinking. Dose she have Covid or what? Just a joke on the Covid thing. But seriously what’s up with her? The temp had been...

A fond farewell to Miss Penny.

It is with a sad heart that I post this but our sweet bantam hen has passed away. Miss Penny was 4 months old and just starting to cluck instead of chirp. She was the sweetest little girl you could have ever wanted. I found her on the roost this morning very lethargic, I got her down and she...

    Help! Lethargic pullet

I went out this morning and found this girl sitting on the roost bar while the others were already out. I got her down and she was motionless. Her eyes open and her head shakes. She did have watery poop on the roost. No sign of mites and the crop isn’t swollen. She will not eat or drink. She was...

    Beak issue.

We have a golden comet (Lucy), the bottom part of her beak sticks out further than the top and it has a chip in it. It doesn’t seem to affect her eating and drinking (she even uses the nipples). Is this ok? The picture was pre pedicure (bumble foot treatment) she looks quite annoyed.
