My hens are treated well, have a large spacious coop clean bedding and nest material and freedom to roam outside on most days.To have someone like the vegan woman in the article generalize that we chicken owners keep them in "battery" cages in the backyard is infuriating.
Wonderful biased article in the Florida times union today about chicken owners. Titled "Urban hens often dumped when eggs stop" They spent half the article speaking with a vegan animal rights kook who advocates for a vegan diet. The other half displaying any downside they could find for owning a...
Update... shes still eating dust bathing and drinking. She still seems congested(sounds kinda rattly sometimes but not all the time.)Shes still forages too.The only thing that has stopped is her egglaying. Not really sure what to do other than to keep waiting and hope that she gets better...
Update on hen. She is still doing well. Still eating drinking and moving around. No meds just yet. Still has the congested sound to her but other than that she seems fine. Going to let her out on the other side of the yard today for some sunshine after she finishes eating her tomato.:)
Well I'm not really comfortable with the thought of giving injections. I have no training for that sort of thing and would be afraid of causing more harm than good.I will wait it out and see what happens.
Yes I will keep you posted.I have her in quarantine now.Like I said she seems fine other than the congested sound she makes. She eats free ranges and drinks well still.she was even dust bathing today. How long should I wait for her to clear up?
Hey everybody! Got a question. One of my hens sounds like she is congested, should I isolate and treat with antibiotics immediately or should I wait it out? She is still eating and drinking, and freeranging well.I gave the coop a good top to bottom cleaning today too in case it is a dust issue...
I put a cheap stick down linoleum floor in my coop over the floor which I pour fine pine shavings over to catch the poo and make for an easier clean up.
You do not want your hens to sleep where they will be laying eggs as this will result in eggs covered in poop all the time because the nest...
What do the eyes look like? Most poisonous snakes have a pupil like a slit in the center of the eye. Non-venomous snakes usually have round pupils. The exception is the coral snake, a venomous snake in the U.S.that has round pupils. But coral snakes have a coloration that is a dead give away to...
I went over last weekend to cpartists to pick up some NH and a BCM hen for my father. Her birds are awesome! In fact my avatar is one of her NH hens.I would certainly buy from her again anytime! the ladies were well adjusted and fit into his existing flock with little to no trouble at all...
Put him in a dog kennel and keep him in the garage or something to muffle the noise until you can find a home for him.I had to do that with the accidental roosters I got.
How old is tobie? Judging from the size of the comb I'd say that it looks like a girl to me. I had some ee roos that were sexed early because the combs got so red so fast and started to swell at barely a couple months old...they were nowhere near as old as you're chicken looks to be.
Try dumpster diving for wood scraps to build your coop.Construction dumpsters are filled to the brim with scarps that usually go to the landfill. You just have to de-nial them before use.
Looking for a breeder/s of Black Copper Marans and welsummers that will sell pullets (preferably 3 to 4 months old to POL)or hens that are 1 year and already laying. Needs to be in North florida(for easy pick up and between the points of duval county to Gadsden (somewhere along or off I -10.)...
Anybody in the Tallahassee area interested in purchasing an Easter egger roo? He's six months old not quite feathered out just yet and very large(at least compared to his brother and the ameracauna hens!) Would prefer he goes to a family that has lots of hennys for him and would not eat him as...
