Is true spangles a recessive or dominant gene? Like spangled hamburgs have...I believe they're spangles aren't mottle related and are a different gene right? Reading about spangles it isn't always clear to me if the writer is talking about Millie fluer type mottling or spangle genes.

I've been reading about mahogany and autosomal pheomelanin. I read that oegb spangle carry both and I have some of those so I've been looking them over good and then going back to stare at my dwarfs. I don't see that depth of color in any of my dwarfs. Guessing that means it's not there. This...

I started trying to learn about the mahogany gene and Dusty reminds me of example birds they showed in an article talking about mahogany and Ap. Unfortunately I'm a long long way from understanding all I read still...but if I understood correctly...he might have both in him. Do you know anything...

Those two have a lot of similarities to my wild type roo I was thinking is silver. Think I'll go and stare at him tomorrow. Can see why you want a flock of Dusty's ❤️

Gotcha! I don't have any birds missing gold except that trio. So wondering at this point if most my birds carry mahogany and maybe something else thats changing the look enough to mask silver very very well. Maybe what I should be looking for is which birds lack mahogany and those are the ones...

Sorry to take so much of your time, but can I ask if the gold gene means s/- and if it means no effect on the color or, if in a hen, means there can be an effect? I've been thinking hens are silver or not silver and I'm not sure I understand what gold means outside of a gold rooster with S/s.

@NatJ Finally got to spend enough time staring at my girls to tentatively think maybe I have it. I have a blue girl with an almost all blue/white stripe down her back and her sides are the same. She does have red in her wings and tail though. Her head is also all black and white, where as most...

Thank you for an incredible answer! That's a lot to digest and I'm going to have to re-read it a few times to absorb it all...for me at the moment, that's a pleasure 😃! So does the hen in this picture mean the roo has to be S/s? She's one of the oddball birds hatched from the same mating as...

You're a blessing by the way! Here are pics of my flock. My apologies for not using correct terms. I'm still learning to think in those words as well as learning the correct words to use. By tri-color I mean each bird carries some version of red/brown, white mottling and black pattern and/or...

The gene and the pattern I think. I'd like to know if the silver gene or another gene is creating the look of those birds. Editing to try to clarify. I'm trying to figure out what gene is creating the look of these birds. If I know which gene, it might help me figure out how to identify which...

I keep reading and looking at the above birds. When I originally asked about those three chicks I was told probably silver, maybe cream but everyone said the parent birds didn't look right to produce silver. Is wheaten a possibility? I seem to recall reading that wheaten can look like silver...

I'm trying to figure out if these birds are silver, and if they are, what the silver carrying hens look like as adults. The birds come from blue Olandsk dwarf breeding and all the parent birds were tri-color. If I understand correctly, if it's silver then all the hens are likely to be tri-color...

I usually use vinegar or bleach. Bleach fumes dissapate after 24 hours and vinegar fumes are harmless. My guess is Mr Clean is adequate but you might want to rinse extra well and air out or bake out any fumes. No idea how strong or long Mr Clean chemicals foul the air. If you have an old...

With a good disinfection type cleaning they shouldn't. If they're used without cleaning and have live virus, bacteria or molds then yes. Some germs are small enough to enter through the eggshell, and the ones that are too big for that can still infect newly hatched chicks. But all incubators...
