Technically you shouldn't need too but watch as i did an all flock with mine and found it was not enough and switched to straight duck starter. I found they just grow so quickly, their need exceeded what i have required for my other breeds.
Very clever for outdoors! you just gave me an idea! I have several doghouses but could use a few more but hadn't sorted other alternatives, you've given me a cheap and easy solution.
They are very personable, mine love the hose and when you could bring it out they'd stand about waiting to be sprayed.
LOL, you have too! with almost 100 birds here plus larger livestock you learn to take glances and move on, i'll tell you there is never a lacking for things to be done.
welcome to ducks!
Generally, don't go any less than 2-3 per drake, personally? as an owner of Pekin? at least 5 or more. I have a half dozen one drake, he has 5 girls and chases and annoys the crud out of my two buff oprington ducks... they belong to some Muscovies they were raised with...
Muscovy ladies do honk but it's usually when they are mad or a fight or something is VERY wrong, i keep a whole whack of those, i seriously recommend them if noise of ducks is a concern there is no quieter breed for females.
My understanding is Cayuga are quieter but pekin are so not, that...
Being well bred has nothing to do with the noise, and at first frankly removal of flock members will stress them and cause more noise as they try to locate the flock members. I had one get lost the other day i could hear her quacking for miles lol
Are you allowed ducks??
While i am sorry to say it won't it's better to be honest. My ladies only have 1 drake and are loud even if he happens to be off elsewhere. Pekin are just chatty and loud as a breed.
I am sure you know this but be careful! not only are they a fire hazard but acclimatize birds to temps that if the hydro(lamp) were to go could cause serious concern, ensure you have a backup plan. I am in Canada, while not the coldest part, i do know cold.
