Lavender CUCKOO have no poor feather quality issues. Perhaps its time for all of us to stop obsessing over breeding to black and think outside the box for a change.
I would consider 10 chicks a small order that should be easy to fill. We had an order for 40 and it was several months delayed and I lost most of them due to heat/cocci issues. But I wouldn't hesitate to order 10- you should get that many anyway to increase odds of getting some good girls...
That is red, not brown. That is just a fault. He really has a nice black beard and other good traits, so I wouldn't keep him from a program unless you had something better. I would use him with unrelated hens.

Nooo- keep any splash wheatens with good type. You can use them to make blue wheatens with your regular wheatens. Or sell a SW male with a wheaten female as BW pair...they are NOT EEs. Just like lavenders are NOT EEs.

Gosh I hope so. What a miserable existence that would be.
I feel guilty on the days when I have to keep a few birds locked in a 10ft x 10ft coop with a yard attached. I am so glad to be done this year and have them all free ranging dawn til dusk again.
Are they wheatens, or are they brown reds? Gosh those are tiny enclosures. Maybe they are just set up to get ready for a show? I can't imagine they live like that all year.
