@generaldsherman Do you have a photo of your cream legbar cockerel? How old are your chicks? I am trying to get mine moved to the big girl coop and it is not going well.
Good Morning everyone!
Well, I candled last night and am happy to report that I was finally able to see some air cells and spider veining in my very dark olive eggs! Several have saddle air cells I think (my first time with shipped eggs), but I definitely saw veining in them.
Update for...
I bought a new flashlight to try and candle my super dark olive eggs, and I still can't see a thing inside them! Can't even see air cells. So I guess I just hope for the best ? ? ? Can't even tell if they are fertile or not at this point. I have turned them every which way trying to get a...
Thanks, I was thinking I'd give them all until Day 10... just don't want an exploding egg. (I experienced a rotten exploding goose egg once and now I'm scarred for life! HA!)
The one I tossed this morning was obviously not okay. No air cell and it looked like the yolk was all broken up into...
Today is Day 6 here and I candled again to look for air cells - YAY! I finally can see air cells in my Olive Eggs. I can't see much else - they are VERY DARK. I know that one has a saddle air cell, but they can hatch from that still right? I tossed one egg, so I still have 8 eggs in my 7...
@Sally Sunshine
I don't have a humidity monitor in the incubator (it is a brinsea mini advance, and I have it filled per instructions and have always had great hatches), the two that are showing veining have nice air cells. I have Lavender Orpingtons and Olive Eggers in there. I cannot see...
I have a question for anyone that knows...
This is my first time working with shipped eggs, but, I am still not seeing air cells in most of my eggs. What does that mean? Does it indicate they are "scrambled"? Today is Day 4, and I did a quick candle this morning to see if the air cells...
Well, I ended up fitting 9 of the 12 eggs in my incubator (set them yesterday morning), will candle in a few days and see if I should toss any and add any of the 3 remaining eggs.
I only saw air cells on two and both of those had carpenter's air cells.... (or whatever the appropriate term...
Sally, I did a test and can fit 9 in comfortably without the auto turner. I guess I will wait in the morning and see which ones look the best and then candle in a few days to see which ones might not be fertile.
Do shipped eggs have to go in upright? Not sure how to accomplish that in the...
I candled after I unpacked them and see no air cells at all ??? After they rest for 24 hours should I be able to see air cells? They were laid by hens on Thursday and shipped 2day so they are right at 3 days old.
I picked up my hatching eggs at post office this morning! Can't wait to get them in incubator.
Problem is.... I ordered 6.... They sent me 12! My incubator only holds 7. What to do!?!?
I can fit 9 in without the auto turner, so could hand turn the first few days in hopes only 7 turn out...
42 pages behind... don't think I'll even try to catch up!
My little injured chick has made a complete recovery! YAY!
In other news, lost one of our hens this weekend to what I assume was a hawk, I found a small mound of feathers and a few random feathers every couple of feet and past the...
The vet was just guessing, but it's definitely not broken. She thinks maybe it is a torn tendon? She wanted to immobilize it as the chick seems to be in less pain when it is drawn up near her body and stable.
