The farms stands near my place are seasonal. There are none at present (Autumn). The oranges have been driven down from the Riverland, which is a few hours away. Not sure about the honey and eggs, but I assume they've at least been driven into the suburbs from a rural location.

I once met someone at the farmers market who wanted to buy bananas. Trying to be helpful I pointed out she might have to go to a supermarket because bananas don't grow in our climate (and therefore can't be purchased at the farmers market). She was very surprised at making that connection...

It's the same where I live. V disappointing fresh food. The greengrocers are not much better, but at least there are 2 to choose from. The farmers' market is pretty good, but it's only once a week and such a long drive.

I agree. I've tried using sand in nest boxes and it doesn't cling together sufficiently to make a bowl shape and nor does it provide much insulation.

I'm planning a hatch for Ivy around October/November and it'll be in a protruding nest box. I think that design may have been a factor in low hatch rate the last time she sat. Would you please show a photo of the mat you're planning to put under Fret's nest? I'll try and get one.

Actually, we know for sure several species demonstrate empathy for others. Elephants for example. And it's been observed in several other species too. If anything, humans have become very good at divorcing themselves from empathy through inventing things like organisations and online gaming and...

I recently had an online purchase that was $25 for shipping but there was no charge for shipping if I spent $10 more. So I looked at what they had on sale and the best value item for $10 was a pair of jeans, very not my size, but I bought them anyway, got free shipping, and donated the brand new...

That's a good point. I'd seen many of your pro-rooster decisions in Catalonia as they occured and I recall the trio of youngsters you re-homed in order to keep the tribes and natural resources in harmony. With this background knowledge i took it for granted that you'd already thought of all...

He must be roosting somewhere nearby. Can you watch him as he trots off to bed?
