My chick eggs are hatching. One is out. One half zipped and got stuck and died. The third one has pipped and I just raised the humidity so it doesn't stick too. I had begun to believe they wouldn't hatch. So there is one more egg but it isn't due to the first. It just sort of fell into the bator...

Well I just checked my chicken eggs. They are generating heat as opposed to most of my remaining quail eggs that seem cool. Still no pips. I had lowered my temperature .2˚ C during my quail hatching and now I am wondering if I should raise it back up. I had it at 38˚C. I know that may be...

Well I am not expecting the remaining quail eggs to hatch. I am still waiting to see about the 3 chicken eggs to see if they will hatch between now and the 1st. After that I am breaking down the bator and cleaning it and installing a second fan that will only kick in if the temperature starts to...

I appreciate your candor so much. Some people think I am a bit strange when I counseled my daughters that if they fell in love with a man who had diabetes in his family to seriously think of adopting because my mother has a mild form and DH mother died of complications from severe diabetes when...

Do you have yours plugged into a surge protector? Power surges can affect digital devises. It is always best to have them plugged into one of the light strips with the surge protection in them.

The eggs themselves generate heat in the end. You could be just a little time away from the chicks popping out. I am so glad I went down to check mine just now. One of the bulbs burnt out but the temp had only dropped to 89˚.

So I am running a wild experiment tonight. Some of you know that I have a bantam Wyandotte hen with an injured hip. I got it to go back into place and wrapped her in an Ace bandage to hold things while it heals.Well today is day 4 and she has been lethargic and depressed all day. She wouldn't...

The Pharoah is the original wild color. I am not sure when the others came along but the whites were definitively after people started raising them.

Looks like 2 Scarletts (the dark ones), two English or Texas A&Ms (size is the only difference), The two golden speckled onez are really interesting. That is not one of the standard colors. It looks like the combination of Roux and Italian Speckeld. If they can produce more of that pattern that...

Candled today. 8 quitters and 6 pipped but Dead In Shell. Five looked to be a little wet and may have drowned. One was shrink wrapped. Upped the humidity by turning on the fog fountain again. Twenty-eight left that have veins and still stand a chance of hatching. Forty-two in the brooder...

It will possibly turn out to be a silver. I was reading up on them and there are three colors: the Cream, the Silver, and Gold. The Cream was what was imported but apparently there was some silver genes floating around. The golds are caused by "losing" the cream gene. Can't remember whether that...

Doesn't matter if they hatch a day early. If you set them on the right days they still count.

Mine is a large homemade bator made from a sink cabinet. It opens at the top. I have an old blanket hanging over it and I crawl under the blanket and pull it down over my hips and then open the bator lid. The blanket keeps the heat and moisture from escaping fast. I have even had the lights turn...

What about the Ocellated turkey? Someone from Florida has sold the eggs on Ebay the past two years. http://www.arkive.org/ocellated-turkey/meleagris-ocellata/image-G20709.html

Screws and big washers, I would think. Or long bolts and washers with nuts would work even better.

No I have 4 OE eggs that were set on the 6th so they haven't pipped yet. Sunday or Monday I am figuring. I helped my mom today and came home to two more quail. Still have about 25 quail eggs that I might get a few more. Had uneven heat in the bator so they are hatching in waves. according to...

Put 21 A&M quail in the brooder box. Around 10 more down in the incubator and still about 20 quail eggs unhatched still. Two of the cracked eggs made it though. My chicken eggs haven't done any thing yet but I wasn't expecting them till Saturday.

Well he didn't make it. But now if that happens again I will try earlier before it becomes so bad. And now I know how to tape them up so they can't get out of the bandages. Oh bye the bye, What kind of geese are these dancing! I want one.or two. Or more.
