Is there a name for this color? The parents appear spangled, but apparently there's some different genetics hiding in them. This cockerel has white on his chest/neck but the rest of him is an odd bluish khaki. He was the only chick to hatch looking like this.
Does anyone know what color this might be? Both parents appear spangled, but I don't own the parents of their parents, so not sure the genetics past them. It's like an almost silvery khaki color. Its the only one that hatched out like this, the rest are shades of black and dark brown.
She has become quite the little spitfire towards the other hens lately as she's matured. She was once timid, but she now holds her ground. I can't get over how thick and heavy she feels-she feels heavier to me even than the cockerel! She is just a solid chunk of muscle. One of these days I'm...
First time in the snow. They hated it and immediately went back into the coop. You can tell the cockerel was unsure about the whole ordeal because he kept his tail all pinched up, especially in the first picture. I've noticed that when he feels confident and comfortable, his tail is spread and...
This is my first pair of orientals, and I'm still reveling over the thickness of their legs, and how surprising heavy they are, especially the pullet! Much heavier than the wyandottes I've had. I suppose they lack the 'fluff' of wyandottes, and have much more muscle mass. The cockerel is a...
Around what age to Orientals (specifically, Thais) start to lay? Not that I am in a hurry to get eggs, just wanted to get a time frame. My silkies normally take 8 or more months, so I'm used to waiting. I believe my pullet is around six months currently.
Finally got around to building a mobile pen for my pair. I'm pretty proud of it, and the birds seem to like it too. They learned the ramp within the first day.
They are both really filling out, and the cockerel's tail has begun to come in in earnest. They are much more intelligent than...
He's quite curious and friendly, his pullet is much more reserved. I can't get over his terrible crow. He doesn't even open his beak to during it. He still thinks he's hot stuff.
My young pair. The male acts like the manliest guy on the block, but still has a pitiful baby crow. They are much heavier than I imagined they would from looking at them, the female especially. I'm really enjoying these guys, they've calmed down a lot towards me and will accept food from my...
My very first pair of orientals. I've been following this thread for quite a while, drooling over the birds, and when I saw this pair at our local chickenstock at a quite affordable price, I pounced. They are quite young still, but are gorgeous to me. The seller said spangled thais. The pullet...
