Thank you! 🥰
Very good to hear!
I intended to draw the air cells starting point on the eggs before setting them, but once they were on the candler I couldn't see the air cell line on any of them. All are really fresh so I just went ahead and set them figuring I might be able to see it better...
Finally just set some eggs again! :yesss:
I've been waiting ages on these Leghorn eggs.
Clifford wasn't covering them properly... despite lots of trying! In his defense, the girls are 1/3 his size so it was a little ludicrous watching him try to balance and get hold of their neck feathers...
Thanks! I LOVE my little Lemondrops! They are 4 weeks old now and turned out to be Olive Eggers fathered by a BCM x Isabel Ameraucana hens. Oops! Half are brown, black, and white and the others look like diluted brown with some patterns. I don't know what's happening with that, lol.
But one of...
Last time I totally broke the rules and grabbed them each out even with other pips. They were rolling the other eggs around like bowling balls, so I was more worried about that.
It really helped to have another person there to grab the chick and straighten the eggs while I held the lid up at...
I wanted to ask a related question... how hot is too hot for local pick up?
We wanted to set eggs from a local breeder who previously sold us Mottled Orpington chicks (irresistibly cute!), and he got started collecting but had to give up for now because they stopped laying. We're on an...
Oops! I can't believe it took me so long to update! Sorry guys.
We were quite sleep deprived.
Note to self: Never Ever add extra eggs in saying "Oh, it's only 12 hours later than the rest, so technically they will hatch on the same day." ... Try night, the following night, so that was two nights...
Ahh! I went to take the turner out and noticed an egg had pipped! Then another and then a third one.
Eggs are due on Sunday.
I meant to remove the turner when it stopped yesterday, but things were crazy busy and we had 3 brooders of chicks to care for (43 in total).
So after a moment of shock...
Forced Air just means there is a fan in there turning the air around so the temperature stays more even.
Dry incubation means not adding any water to the tray so the humidity is based on your ambient humidity + what the eggs loose via transpiration.
You can switch to Dry at any time except once...
9 developing Ameraucana eggs in the bator 🥳
More than half of the original 22 weren't fertile, unsurprisingly.
2 were early quits (very early).
2 others I set off to the side in the bator because I can't be sure what I'm seeing in them.
I will have to try to take pics while candling tonight...
CluckNDoodle
Your cleaning video is great! No overlong shots of your countertop like some people do :p
I'm thinking we should DIY some kind of plug for the turner motor to make it easier to avoid water entry.
Best wishes for everyone still hatching tonight!
We're set at 68 but the fan is very strong so it was definitely in "draft" territory. I tried suggesting a higher temp on the AC but I was facing a riot. :p
Looks like I'd do better incubating in winter when we have the heat on at 72!
Air quality was a concern of mine as well. I will try to...
After our conversation CluckNDoodle , I put distilled water in tray A as I placed the eggs yesterday.
The humidity is reading 60% so I guess my ambient Florida humidity really is interfering. Or it could be the plastic tote I have the incubator sitting in. Our AC is too cold for the incubator to...
Some do wiggle, some don't, depending on how the chick is moving.
We last month had a broody give up on some of the eggs she was sitting on after the others hatched (she must have been stealing eggs causing a staggered hatch because there were way more than we remembered setting her up with...
Thanks a bunch!
Yeah our typical outdoor humidity here is about 100% (kidding!). But you are not that far from us.
I read back quite a ways in this thread, wondering if there was anything particular to this incubator to be aware of, is there any post or page(s) a new user should see?
So far...
Hi everyone! We just got our NR 360 today!
I'm running it with an EggOmeter so I can evaluate the temp overnight and set the eggs tomorrow.
That led me to wonder, with the fan in there doesn't that make it a forced air incubator meaning the temp should be set at 100.5?
The last time I...
