Welp pretty sure they're all girls unless goose turns out to be a very un-driven male. After finding two yesterday I opened the loft this morning and came back to find cricket in the aviary....WHITH A BUNCH OF EGGS! apparently they've been laying way towards the back where I never look!!! So I...

It FINALLY HAPPENED! two eggs this morning! Pretty sure from Beezer and Cricket cause they're the fattest/largest. Hopefully either Tiny or Goose will start laying, and one will prove male to make a breeding flock 🤞🤞

@Nabiki hmm good to know, I tried the 'foam' method but nobody produced anything somehow. So I guess we'll need to wait and see. There's been no crowing either. I simply guessed that goose and tiny may be male as they were the two who attacked the duckling I was looking after almost immediately...

Ok so quail are now 7 weeks and chunky. But no eggs? I think goose and tiny may be boys but all 4?? They tend to eat the pigeons feed more than there own but I feel like that shouldn't affect them much since if anything it puts more wieght on them than their own feed.

Thought it might be my nesting Pigeons but I've seen no sign of the stocks in the nests, loft, or aviary. Maybe a rat? Or rabbit? My cat caught a rat escaping a storm just the other day in our garage so we definitely have at least one

Uhhh ok weird question but do quail like to eat feather grass? I put the Quail out for around 3 hrs and both my feather grasses were intact. Went to put them to bed and one plant has been removed of its 'feathers' the 2nd plant is fine along with a maturing weat grass that came from my pigeon feed.

It's been awhile since I updated, but Beezer, Goose, Cricket and Tiny all made it to adulthood!!! Good color variety no?

I may try that, we actually have a ton of owls around but I'm afraid if I put up a nest box they'd go for our small dogs later on. We have a set of young jays in our yard which is probably why they actually showed up, it appears to be this pairs favorite meal, I suspect they were just waiting...

@Nabiki yeah I'll post them tommorrow, put the hawks can't get into the loft Quilliam just stuck his head out through the fence is the issue :( I'll put bricks around perimeter and try to get some mesh wiring to blck off the lower few feet of aviary, put there's been broad winged and Coopers...

Super sad news guy😭 I came home from work just now only to find Quilliam didn't great me at the door of the aviary. He wasn't in any hides either, I had skirting all around the aviary and bricks buried along the inside for digging, but it turn out Quil had gotten distracted and stuck his head...

Swapped Quilliam for the chicks, so babies are in the house for now and Quilliams in the loft Which will not be flooded. Also do male or female quail grow faster? Quilliams feathers came in pretty fast but he still has no tail😅 where as Beezer the oldest chick has only wing feathers and tail...

So happy I brought Quil inside, he'd definitely have drowned 😬

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Blegh ok then 😅 but ....are they smart enough to avoid drowning? We may get 4 inches per hr tonight although who knows how many hrs that is! But there was already 1/2 inch leading about 2 ft from the aviary. Brought Quil inside just in case. Think the thunder scared him, he's wanting to snuggle...

Anyone know how to make a quail shelter at night? Quilliam is still sleeping in the open in between the aviary door and pigeon loft, theres 3 water proof hides, a couple potted plants, and 4x4 covered area due to the pigeon loft! He sleeps in the flat clear entry way, no plants, under no cover...

Other four fluff bottoms constantly be getting into trouble 🤦 they can already climb over the bricks and then fail to get back over🤷 how long before I can trust them in a 4x4 area? They're going on 3 days to 7 days old. Here they are after I rounded them back up this morning lol.

@Nabiki the baby passed on last night, but for future reference what is the best way to cull a baby quail?😭 He was definitely in pain, if I knew a human way of culling him I probably would've done it.

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

@CindyinSD Quilliam is in my Pigeons aviary full time, it's covered and water proof along 5/6 of the top, and he has 3 different hides, some plants and other objects for shelter. He's perfectly healthy just trying to convince me to put him back in the loft itself 🤦 he did surprisingly well in...

Unfortunately the youngest isn't going to make it :( I reset his for last night and he did well only to backslide over night, the pain was to much making him not use it/simultaneously cause his whole leg to stiffen up, and now he can't get up at all, not to mention he has since stopped eating...
