    Black JG or Australorp?

Breed ID help! I recently got my hands on a Black Jersey Giant Roo. Was told from previous owner that he is almost a year old. I’d say in the 8-9 pound range and around 17-20” tall. Spurs just now seem to be growing, only around 1” long Now I know some of the main qualifications for BJG but what...

Jersey Mike: Black Jersey Giant? Hen/Roo?

Another game of: who are you and are you a hen or roo? This is Jersey Mike. They came to us in what was supposed to be a group of Black Australorps - that is until their feet started turning yellow and their eyes changed! We heard from a few chickeners that Jersey Mike is a Black Jersey Giant...

    Jersey Giant

I have a 2 week old Black Jersey Giant, and their comb kinda looks suspicious. I know you won't be able you tell the gender this young and I'm not asking for it yet, but I'll post more pictures as they grow up. Their name is Emo and my other BJG is Missy. I just wanted to know if you guys also...

    Black chicken from Meyer Hatchery

She has yellow on the bottom of her black feet, white nails. I know the chicks came from Meyer Hatchery. These are the only black options from Meyer I could think she could be. Any input would help towards solving my mystery. Thank you!

    Is this a BJG?

I finally found a pic of Elvis, my first rooster from 2010. I suspect he was Black Jersey Giant, and am wondering if you guys can confirm from this pic. With time I might be able to find another photo of him with a hen near him that does not have her head down. Would appreciate any input! I...

    Astralorp or Jersey Giant?

I ordered 1 Black Astralorp and 1 Black Jersey Giant. The chicks were packaged for me at the store before I got there. I could not tell any difference between them at 1 day old, nor can I see any difference at 10 weeks old. Here they are together, and they both look like they have the same...

Black Sex Link? Black Australorp? Black Jesery Giant? Help!

Hello! I traded with my uncle a while back and got 2 hens. He said he ordered them through a hatchery and these girls were Black Sex Link hens. A few days ago. I hatched eggs from my flock in my incubator and found three chicks that looked nothing like the Barred Rock chicks I normally...

Panic! Problem at Meyer Hatchery made me change breeds :(

Hi All, I spent 6 months looking forward to my newest chick order and my first roo (Black Jersey Giant). I wanted a HUGE, docile, pet rooster for my girls. I did all of the research in the world to make my decision. Now, Meyer just called to say that none of their Jersey eggs are viable. I also...

Black Jersey Giant Roo over Blue Hen

I've recently introduced Blue Jersey Giant hens into my flock which was previously all Black. Does anyone know what the coloring of the chicks from the Black roo and Blue hen would be? And also, would they be visibly different at hatch so I could tell the pure blacks from the black/blues?

Black Jersey Giants - Growth Q

We have 2 BJG - one of each male & female. They are 18 weeks old. We have 5 other breeds of regular size chickens - all the same age as the BJG. Of course the BJGs are larger than the others, although our Black Australorps are larger too, but not as big as the BJG. My Question is: when...

Look at the size difference! DBL and BJG

12 weeks old. Dark Brown Leghorn (DBL) and Black Jersey Giant cockerels. They are a bit different in size! Just 2 pics of the same 2 birds. BJG has a stubby tail still - definitely the slowest tail growth of all the 12 week old chicks we have. The DBL has white earlobes, so is easy to see.

Is Millie going to be a Jerry?

Hey friends, We have two Black Jersey Giants pullets from our local feed store. They are 6 weeks old. One has tail feathers like all of the rest of the hens and the other has pointy tail feathers. I don’t see much difference in the combs but am a total newbie and could be over thinking. I know...

My How They've Grown! Chicks with pics!

They keep growing, and all are healthy. They have now experienced hard boiled egg and grapes. Loved them both. All seem to be getting a long so far. Brooder needs a second roost added now that the heat plate has been removed. For size comparison, here they are in the brooder at 2 weeks...

    Black Jersey Giants - M or F?

Purchased these on hatch day Feb 28, 2018. They are 4 weeks old. However, they have been developing very differently with wing feather and tail feather growth. Also, their comb and wattles are also on different growth rates. Here is a link to a recent thread with weekly wing pics where you...

Chicks with Pics! 4 Week Update - Growing fast!

17 chicks across 6 breeds Wow! So much growth! They are turning into great little chickens. Some are straight run, so we still have some male or female mystery going on, but wattles have begun to show up and combs are becoming more obvious. They are shedding so much fluff and dander this...
