August 2023 hatch-a-long

Mopsy finally decided to get off the remaining eggs. Unfortunately, one had pipped and was peeping. The three remaining eggs were brought inside to the incubator, and the pipped one hatched. It was dry enough (and LOUD enough!) that I decided to bring it out to Mom at around 10 pm last night.

Checked this morning, and the baby was doing fine, hiding under mom whilst it's siblings came out for food.

I don't know if the remaining two eggs will hatch. Air cell is down, hard to see movement or veins. I'll give it another couple of days, since they don't stink.

My OEGB eggs should be hatching soon, I hope. I wonder if Mopsy would take them... 🤔

They are so cute! I love the colors of the chicks.
I normally wait till day 25 to get rid of eggs. That’s good they don’t stink.

I think she probably would take them. My hen took some chicks three days after hers hatched. I hope the other two eggs hatch. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

My Aug babies are already 3 weeks. Here are a few pictures of them. I love the pic of my big roo with the baby roo, tried to get it when the baby was facing me but of course he turned around. My big guy is so sweet and loves to take care of all the babies and call them over to the food etc. Too bad most of the babies are afraid of him. One of my cream legbars is starting to get her crest.

My friends went to check on the chickens and the incubator again today and said that are are only 7 eggs left! 5 of the 7 eggs that are left are the CL eggs, and only one of the CL eggs are actually developing (the CL eggs went in about 2-3 days after the others, so they should be on day 20-21). So far 22 out of 29 eggs hatched!
Here are some pictures they took today. I can already see a couple chicks with white spots on their heads, which probably means those ones are boys:th. I hope I’m wrong and they are just some female chicks that went against the code of the white spot😅

They are so cute! I wish I had better success with my CL eggs 😕. Awwwww, that is so cute! He is so sweet!
The CL crests are the cutest little things!

So many cute babies!

My 3 duck eggs are still ok, it's starting to be really hard to see anything in there but pretty sure there was some movement in all 3 eggs still. I should have written down which one might be twins because I can't tell anymore for sure. Maybe it was just one after all, but I guess we'll find out soon, 8 days left.

I had a batch of CL eggs before these ones that all quit around day 7. Hopefully you can try again and have much better luck.

I love their crests!!!

And I noticed after looking a little closer at the pictures of my chicks, that some of them have feathered feet! I’ve never had feathered feet chickens before! I’ve wanted some for a while, but I didn’t know that I would get some in this batch!
Buying Barnyard mix hatching eggs from someone else is fun. It’s a game of guess the parents. But sometimes I do like to know what the parents breeds were.
