Avian influenza found in South Carolina

This is horrible. A poster on another platform just said Tractor Supply culled all chicks in North Carolina last night. I thought the post was bogus since they get their chicks from Hoover's and an AI incident would be a nationwide problem.

See article, sounds like the cull really did happen. NC lawmakers are idiots, they had NO restrictions whatsoever in place and then ban all chick sales with no notice during chick season?

"As of Tuesday, April 5, all North Carolina poultry shows and public sales will be suspended due to the threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza, which continues to spread across the state and country."

Holy crap. That is ridiculous.

Pretty sure Day old chicks are still allowed to be sold.

Curious, I went to Meyer hatchery site... Can they ship everywhere? Any updates? are they restricted from certain states? Here is what I found:

The eggs at a large hatchery seem to be incubated completely separate from the breeding flocks. I'm pretty sure this is true for many/ all hatcheries. Additionally, the heat of incubation is supposed to kill any HPAI virus (is what I've read). However, its not baby chicks spreading it. Of course, they may not have updated for NC - the last update was a few days ago.

Check out any updates at your favorite hatchery - see if they are unable to ship to any particular states. I only checked Meyer.

I am watching this closely. My feed store is supposed to get a shipment in from Hoover's next week. I need 2-3 chicks for a broody. I would buy them tomorrow if they had any compatible breeds.

Though NC had several domestic flocks infected, my state hasn't had any. Even if our lawmakers over-reacted they probably wouldn't act fast enough to mess up next week's sales.

I don't see any reference about TSC culling chicks in that link ...is there another link to look at? If I click on the "in blue click here's" it says whoops, something went wrong.
Just did a quick google news search about it, couldn't find anything that way either , yet.
