This chick came out of a batch of purebred Marans. The flock is of assorted colors (FBCM, Birchen, white, and more) all running together for the winter.

I'm not well-versed in Marans genetics, so am curious if somebody knows what color crosses would produce a decidedly brown chick.... And what color it might turn into?

Thanks!

When enlarged the picture is quite blurry, but that does not look like a single comb. Were there any other breeds in the flock ?

My poor picture taking skills. The comb is definitely single.
Owner tells me the flock was all pure Marans of assorted colors, no mixing with other types of chickens. They think it'll be Birchen. I know nothing of Marans, really.

The vendor said she had all colors of Marans together. I wonder if it's a Golden Cuckoo Marans cross?
I will have to inquire if such was possible.

See the brown helmet on the chick? That's indicative of the chick being based on the eb(brown) allele. This allele doesn't exist in Marans according to the Standard.
