Coturnix: How long from pip to hatch?

It is so cold here in Va. Only one egg is starting and I see the beak. So I should not bother to help? I lost quite a few last summer because I suppose they exhausted themselves. Never had one brood in the winter.

I don't recommend helping but its always your call. It can take up to 30 hours from pip to hatch. but usually when i can see a beak the chick is improperly positioned in the shell and is having a hard time getting out. Sometimes they make it sometimes they don't. I've heard of people having a repeated success helping out hatches. Myself, I found that I ended up losing/euthanizing a large percentage of the chicks who were helped out. Again however, your call.

I have a couple that are peeping inside the egg but there hasn't been any change in the state of the outer shell. Is this bad? They have been peeping g for at least eleven hours.

If they can't make it out on their own, they probably weren't going to make it anyway. Let darwin take care of it.

Black and yellow is a tuxedo this one is just ab A&M

My old one was before I had tuxedos and I know for a fact that this is at least pert tuxedo. My only hen is a tux. But you may be right, I do have a male tex a and m.

A&Ms have a brown patch of feathers on their heads or backs.

I've had between 12-24 hours between pip and pop. I try to wait until all are hatched before removing them, but when you're doing a couple hundred at a time it's hard! LOL! Just be patient and listen for the peeps.
