Great Horned Owl hunting my chickens during the day!

While you are not allowed kill raptors or destroy their nests or eggs, Federal law does allow you to annoy or harrass them as much as you want. I find an air-horn to be particularly effective at running them off.

And owls will sometimes hunt in daylight. There's one that lives at the east end of my property and it sometimes shows up in daylight. It checked out my free-range flock a couple of times in later afternoon last year, but my flock is large and rather aggresive when it comes to raptor incursions: a couple incidents of a dozen or so screaming guineas and chickens mobbed under its perch and I haven't seen the owl by daylight any more.

It did make a couple of night-time tries at the birds that perche in the enclosed run at night, which made a nice racket at 2 am. But while I hear the owl on a regular basis it doesn't seem to want to come around any more.
