No progress on the second pip that started yesterday midday. ☹️ Last activity was 9:30pm pushing on the pip.

One more eggs has pipped (3/5) but it’s a long and horizontal crack. Thankfully it’s well positioned. I’d really like this guy to have a buddy and get him out of the incubator (hatched 6/23 1:30pm EST). But I don’t want to move him alone.

I have a small group of 4-week olds who have a heat plate. They would probably kill this day-old keet, right?

Very likely. I'm in the same boat. 3 week old turkeys and fresh ducklings. Had to rig up a temp brooder inside till the turkeys get moved out

I was able to fashion a divider in my brooder box so singleton is safe while sorta having company. Ate, drank, and is trying to get to the big kids. 😢

But newborn seems bright, alert, and active so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

The four remaining eggs are on day 27 (guineas). I was about to candle for signs of life and now I hear occasional chirping! :celebrate

Cross your fingers and toes for me! And dang! I guess I should kept early bird in the bator. He may get a buddy after all! :fl

The last egg. No vocalization, no movement, no pip, no odor. On Day 28.

Showed movement on Day 21 before lockdown.

A late quitter or still viable?

If there aren't any odors, then I would a few days before discarding. It can be difficult to see movement sometimes.
Guineas can take 26-28 days to hatch according to google, though I've never hatched them myself. So I would at least wait a little while longer.

Early bird is happy to have company. Fifth egg remains in bator.

Next batch of eggs are dated, weighed, and waiting for their turn in the NR360. Govee and scale are purchased. Partner said, “This math does not add up. These birds are never gonna pay for themselves [that was my goal, by selling babies].” And started doing the math: incubator, metal trough for brooder, brooder plate, Govee, etc etc etc. Never do the math! Never!

Now that I’ve purchased an arsenal of tools, what can I do differently to get a better hatch rate than 4/22? Should I post that question within this thread or separately?
