HELP! SUSPECTED SOUR CROP! I suspect sour crop in two of my chickens and I don’t know what to do. They’re crops look larger than normal and feel jiggly and squishy, not hard. One of my chickens crops went down after a couple hours and the other hasn’t. I know sour crop should be treated immidietly but I’m not sure if they have it. Can you help me figure out if they have sour crop and if I should treat it? Also, what do you recommend for treatment. Please let me know ASAP because I’m very scared for my chickens. The pictures are of the same two chickens, the black sex link (pictured) emptied her crop a little while ago, but the other chicken pictured is a buff orpington, who hasn’t. Both chickens are 1 year old.

If you are checking the crops during the day when they have been eating/drinking, the crops should have food/water in therm.

Go check the crops first thing in the morning before they have had anything to eat or drink. The crops should be empty then.
If they aren't, then let us know.

Ok, one of my chickens crops was still full and all the others were empty. There’s something wrong so I’m going to separate her.

I rarely separate a bird to treat them for crop issues unless they are getting picked at or too lethargic and need specialized care. Personally, I would leave her with the flock and treat her according to the article below. Separation can be stressful.
