Hey everyone just wanted to share that I just took my first trip to the smokey mountains. Im staying in Maggie Valley NC. We drove up yesterday. It was 29 degrees when we got here and it was snowing 5am this morning. Our hotel overlooks a huge beautiful mountain. At 7am we drove up to Cherokee and it was 16 degrees and the snow was blowing everywhere. I finally got to where my snow boots without everyone looking at me funny. This is my first time being in the snow really. I love it up here. We are going to home some time on thursday. My soon to be inlaws are moving back up here so Im sure I will get plenty of opportunity to come back and visit this beautiful place. Maybe in a yr or so we may decide to move up here too.

We did a tour of the Smokey Mountains many many moons ago....before children ...on the Harley..a group of us.....was very beautiful and we also went on Route 329 ...now called the tail of the dragon....I hear....We had a great time

Did you get the "I rode the dragon "shirt at the local HD dealership.

Jenlyn9483, if you get the chance while you are up that way, go to Townsend, TN and drive through Cades Cove. It will be worth the trip. It's one of the most beautiful places in the smokies and there are tons of wildlife. You will most likely see deer and bears and if you are lucky maybe a fox or bobcat. Lovely place. I just love it there. Hubby and I made a trip up there on our Harley this summer.

My Hubby was down in Tennessee last year for bussiness and he picked up a shirt at the HD dealership on the back it has the "I rode the the tail" of the dragon...
What I remember about all those turns was never knowing a rig was coming around the corner..I was co pilot....and a good friend of ours getting off his bike fast ahead of us and him jumping around taking off his pants because he got stung by two bees ....he had a tank top on and the bee's managed to get down to the his waist line..he had a pot belly.....oh that was so funny...luckily we had an emergency room nurse with us ....with her "kit".....I can picture the big baby laying on the forest floor and the nurse taking care of him..we have photo's ..and he looked so scary back then ....long beard ....long hair ....tats...now he's a dad ....nice guy...but everyone reminds him of that day still...hee hee hee!!

That is a beautiful area through there. I think that is also the area that "Popcorn Sutton" lives in.

He is known in the area as being one of the best moonshiners. He has also written a book that you can buy around there somewhere that I would love to read sometime.

A beautiful area and very peaceful there as well. I sure hope you enjoy your visit. I would also love to live in that area. It is a much more peaceful way of life than most people live today in the hustle bustle of the cities and jobs.

Have fun, and post some pictures if you can!

Hi Jenlyn9483! So glad to know you're having a great time and loving the area that I call home! I used to live in Bradenton, FL & now live in Bryson City which is right next door to Cherokee. So did ya go to the casino in Cherokee? Whenever you come back to the area again, if it's warm weather try riding the train in Bryson City - it's a lot of fun. In wintertime the train will do rides based on "The Polar Express" which is a ton of fun for kids (& adults too!). DEFINITELY go to Cades Cove in TN. Dollywood is a blast in TN & they have a Polar Express attraction too now. Have you driven through Dillsboro (great shops) or Sylva (where I work)? Hope u have a nice trip!
