International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

That's awesome! I know what you mean about winning by default. I took the only Cream Legbars there at the Appalachain Classic.. definitely not too thrilling to win by default at all. Luckily there were quite a few Marans there so I had some good competition. There were tons of large fowl and bantam leghorns at the AC.. single and rose comb.. whites, light brown, and dark browns. Beautiful birds! I am kicking myself for not taking picures of them.
We have a lot of whites and browns show here but I don't mess with those colors I was showing buffs and blacks and then added silvers and one black tailed red.
I couldn't beat the best whites so that's as far as I got. The whites that are here are beautiful. If I had an ego to feed if get into them. It would be a challenging class for sure.
I showed some isabels and a couple other non recognized varieties and that was really fun watching people try to understand a leghorn in such a weird color. I thought for a minute about just getting into doing that to show some birds that others have never seen but I usually wise up quickly and remember why it wouldn't be worth it at this time.

Whatever the newest one at the time is :D
Seriously there are so many I really like. If I had to nail it down I'd say Isabel or anything with lavender.
Isabel here is gold duckwing with self blue.

Howdy~ :frow I'm extremely new to marans and i'm pretty excited to have the breed. I bought a breeding group of french black copper marans just a couple of days ago, 1 roo and 7 girls.
I'd like to focus more on the actual appearance of the breed so hopefully I can learn all the information I need here.

I'd like to separate 4 of my best looking hens with my rooster and start collecting eggs to hatch out.. So which hens would you choose for breeding?
Here are some pictures of my little flock, Any critique or tips are welcomed :)

(A little note: I don't plan on keeping the rooster for breeding due to the white feathers on his wings, Lady said they were scars from being picked on a lot, But i'm not sure that's completely true or not. But he'll have to do for now~

very nice flock .they seem to me they are related .they share a same traits good and bad . they have the same fault .
high tail and very bad comb .
they do have a lot good quality ,but they can not bred together ,

the only 2 hens can see they are compatible with your rooster are hen 4 and hen 5.

hen 4 has a dark eyes ,it is ok the rooster has a gorgeous eyes .she has a good comb s and long back with a nice tail .you ll hatch some gorgeous chicken from this pair .

hen 5 I like her a lot a best of them all .love her body type ,her tail and her short feet .well chunky too . great mass .she ll give you some stunning cockerels for sure ,with a better tail set .

where did you get your marans chooks from /
I can tell the breeders spent a lot amount of time to fix the body type and the type of plumage ,pure black on the hens , Bravo .
now you have to finish the work .fix the tail and the comb .but first let see the egg colors .

@MillersFarm

this hen #4 has every thing perfect except her eyes .
she has the best hackle marking I ever seen .well wrapped around her neck ,complete hackle marking ,very ,very rare to see . who breed this beauty should be very pround .

hatch as many chicks from her as you can ,

she has every thing the standard call for .10/10 true marans type .

I ll name her for you if you don t mind , Black Caviar .Famous race horse . never got beaten , she never lost .

@MillersFarm

this hen #5 is a absolutely stunning ,she has few fault but none of then is major ,
great bodt type ,her plumage is a little fluffy at the rear not a big drama .
what I really like about her is her correct body type and her short feet ,her body is so close to the ground ,old marans type ,
look at the depth of her chest .
she will give you big chooks
her tail is a stand out to ,very nice

I ll name her ,Lady Sofia . she is not a push over .

hatch from her as many as you could

just work with her and Black Caviar .,both of them have what they need to correct your rooster
