International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I am wondering about the gene for feathering on the legs and toes. Is that a dominant or recessive gene? I ask because I know that the French standard calls for the feathering and the English standard does not. Yesterday I received a shipment of five [2 day old] chicks that are supposed to be from French champion bloodlines. However, none of them have feathered legs. Is that possible? If I breed them to my little girl that hatched last week [she does have feathered legs] will I get correct feathering on the offspring? I'm very disappointed as I paid a fair sum for what I expected to be "correct" FBCM babies. Should I contact the breeder?

no chick is perfect. feathered legs are easy to fix, don't worry.

So I have sold off most other cockerels and decided on keeping this one for now.
I am not sure if it is a quality bird but his copper color is stunning in person the pictures don’t do it justice.
He is only 16 weeks old roughly so still plenty of growing to do yet.
What say you all about him.
Keeper of culler??
I personally love the coloring on his chest but not sure if that is a fault or not?

He is a good looking dude. My question for the others is this photo. Is this split wing? 80% of my birds have similar wing feathering and I am considering it split wing, kinda hoping it molts out.
Wonder if it’s due to his young age. Now that you mention it my other Roo I just sold had the same thing.

A couple of years ago on this thread someone suggested the website Rare Breed Auction to find quality marans.

I wrote it down in my notebook along with all the other valuable information ive gathered here.

Since i had to cull every one of my birds to illness, i hatched out some more from the original local breeder and now have 6 from her. 3 cockerels, 3 pullets.

I went on Rare Breed Auction last week and found a reputable marans breeder. Went to their farm website and ordered 8 chicks.

They arrived this morning. Correct hatch down. Very nice type from what i have learned here. Much better hatch down than my other 6 that i have now.

I will keep them as 2 separate lines for now and see how things go.

Pictures as soon as they rest from their journey!
