Is this a termite nest and should I worry?

Today I saw this huge thing in the pecan tree above my duck pen. Is this a termite nest? It's 110ft from my house, which used to have a horrific termite infestation due to neglect from the previous owner who was very ill (the termites ate the drywall and carpet). How can I get rid of it if it's not a bird's nest? Will it be safe if broken around the chickens and ducks?

Aren't termite nests primarily in the ground?

Agrees with Howard, after opening in photo program and severely lightening...hornet nest.
