And we're not all liberals. I live in "The State of Jefferson." There is a huge swath of folks up here who want the northernmost areas of CA to become the 51st state. We are waaaaay too close to Nevada.

Nope. It's the agriculture in the Central Valley and the tech in Silicon Valley (aka San Jose et al).
