June 2023 Hatch-a-long

I will be setting 18+ eggs come Monday night or Tuesday. I get my shipment from a lovely breeder/new friend. I have 2 call ducklings I am raising up now (photo for cuteness)… she has gifted me half call eggs and half lavender orpington eggs. I show buff orpingtons, and they are my favorite.. but i could never get my hands on lavender. I am beyond excited. will update when i set them with hatch expected dates, but obviously should be june! this will be my FIRST attempt at shipped eggs & duck eggs… so hang in there with me!

I will have 2 incubators going, one for the ducks and one for the chicks
ps- i will be making a thread on their pen/aviary sometime when it’s done. i have big goals…

Omg ducklings are soooo cute!!!! I want to hatch some so bad!!!! But I don't want ducks. Lol

I have 4 lav Orpingtons that are about a week old. I have splash, mottled and reg lavender. I can't wait for them to feather out. Mine were also shipped.

i’m really excited for this! I plan on showing both at the fairs, this summer or next. depends on if these hatch…

One is darker, the breeder thinks its mom is black split. She sent me the eggs to hatch and see if there was a sneaky black split in her flock.

day 2 and while I had to hand turn some of the eggs because I have them stacked I took a peek and saw signs of life in a couple of them. Hopefully will see LOTS more tomorrow as some still had the "clear egg glow" which normally isn't a good sign since they normally darken up. but hopefully I am wrong.

crossing my fingers for you! my shipment is indeed coming monday

Quick peek last night and looks like 9 are starters and for sure 4.
I’ll check tomorrow night.
I hen do you guys officially give up on an egg
Oh and I took from my hens. They made my air cells wobbly
They are still broody and sitting on fake eggs waiting for babies

when I wasn't as confident with candling I waited until day 7-10 unless I could tell it had started and quit.

Now I have been known to take them out on day 4 if the yolk is still glowing but most times I try to wait till day 5 to give it time to start something.

Guess I'll be joining this one too, although I don't plan on having any in the incubator. Yet.

I have two Muscovy sitting on duck eggs and hopefully will have Muscovy sitting on Muscovy eggs soon!
