What is this lump on my girl Brittney? I noticed she was missing feathers on her lower back near her tail. Yesterday I saw It looks like she may be picking at them herself. Examined her and found this lump. It is definitely attached, in/under the skin. Guessing it is bothering her so much she’s pulling the feathers? Or is it an oil gland? At first thought maybe deplaning mites but the feather shafts are there so ?? She is eating and drinking well but not laying. Didn’t see any evidence of mites or other issues. 9 hens, no rooster, girls confined to coop/run (too many predators here in the hi desert) 40’x10’, lots of dusting spots, Feed Kalmbach layer, black soldier fly larvae and garden greens daily.
